Repairing plastic bits on a thorowgood saddle?

My thorowgood saddle has developed a small split on the plastic saddle flap, which appears to be getting bigger

The "top" layer is sort of peeling off, so the saddle is still useable. However, I want to try and repair it somehow.

Does anyone have any ideas? As a emergency repair I wondered about sticking some electric tape over it to stop the edges wearing away.

Apart from replacing the whole flap, I would think some good duct tape would prevent further damage, electrical tape will probably not be sticky enough.
