My loaners won't give me my vaccination card back for the horse but I think I know which vet did her jabs last (in Feb). If I ring them and explain would they be able to send / could I buy a replacement card do you think?
It's got to be worth a try, they should have all the details. I'm sure the practice who I use would. I've not actually asked for vaccinations records but have had copies of proof of castration etc done.
Why are your loaners withholding the vaccination card?
You'll need the full history doing, which may be hard if he's be jabbed at more than one practice, also the diagram will need to be filled in. Can you get the vaccination history put in the passport? That will save you having to pay for another identity drawing to be done. If you cannot get the full vaccination history verified & transferred in to a new document you will have to start your vaccinations agin.
I should try & get the card back.........them refusing to return it could end up being quite costly.
Why? Because they are being so and so's - read my previous thread on it if you can find it. It's a step up as initially they were refusing to give the horse back. They are also refusing to give my passport back.
I didn't think there was a diagram on it or am I getting mixed up with the dogs vaccination card?
The flu vac card has to undeniably relate to the horse hence the need for a diagram to be a part of whatever document the vaccinations are recorded on.
Your best bet is to contact whichever PIO issued your passport & explain that the original has been mislaid. You will have to pay for a duplicate but that will still be cheaper than having to have all your identity diagrams redone.
Once you have got the duplicate passport sorted you can then try to rebuild the vaccination history. As I said though you will need more than the last one for the flu history to be valid. You will need to show the first two primary jabs, the 1st booster & every annual. If any of this information is missing you will need to restart his injections I'm afraid.
Thanks, I've tried ringing the passport office but they are closed today. I'll write to them and request a duplicate. I imagine she has used the same vets for the past 3 years for the vaccinations so once I have the passports I'll see if they can help or not.
Our cob had his flu vaccs all marked on a card with no diagram? We now have them entered on his Passport.
Recently, when I got my pony back off loan, his Passport was not updated with his vaccination, which the loaner insisted she had had done. I tracked down her vet, explained what had happened, so they checked the record and were happy to mark up the Passport - if she had actually had it done!! I just needed to know the surname of the loanee and the horses name. Most vets keep it on computer now, so I would wait for your Duplicate Passport then take it to the vet and ask them to enter all the details they have.
Thing is the vets are "supposed" to check the diagram against the horse BEFORE they give it the vaccination !! I know they never do.........none of mine are ever checked either !!
I actually keep two flu histories going.....one on a vaccination card & one in the passport for each horse.
Vets should also transfer records from a vaccination card in to a passport - regardless of whether or not their practice actually did all the vaccinations. Howeber some vets are very stuffy about doing this, others want to make a hefty charge, & others are quite happy to carry out the request with no fuss.
If you are having a flu record transferred from a card to a passport you need to copy out all the details, make a "curly bracket" around the information & write something along the lines of "Certified as a true & correct record" then your vet can sign & stamp at the bottom of the copied history, having first checked the diagram on the card against the one in the passport. In situations like yours Donkeymad the vaccinations on the card could have been done on any horse.........there was no proof that they did indeed undeniably relate to your cob - although I'm sure that in your case they did.
