I have a rice richardson trailer thats not that old, but we have discovered that the wall panels are starting to rot. They are coated ply wood in a light grey colour and all of them apart from the ramps are rotting. I would like to replace them as the trailer itself is in very good condition and seems a shame to scrap it. Has anyone (as i have run out of ideas) got and ideas for what we can replace them with.

I have called rice richarson and they have given me a quote for the ply wood they now use on richardson trailers, and they are also coming back to me with a quote for the corrugated aluminium as well. i know it won't be cheap! I have also contacted an independant company regarding smooth aluminium sheets, but wondered if anyone had replaced wall panels before with this, or if anyone had any other ideas.

Help and advice would be great as i have run out of ideas and would like to get back on the road asap! :)

I think I may have the same trailer as you as it has grey coated ply wood walls. My Dad had a look at ours and announced that its the same as Respatex which is used in bathrooms, wetrooms etc and is available online. Mind you it will come in all sorts of patterns such as marble which would look very tasteful I think! :)

I have no idea how it compares in price but as with anything horsey the price is always inflated and you may find that looking slightly out of the box could work out cheaper. The bathroom stuff is basically exactly the same as it is just ply with a plastic coating. Might be worth investigating?

Thank you for your advice and suggestions.

Can I just ask, have you coated the aluminium with anything or is it only on the inside?

I have not heard about that respatex stuff so will look into that as well.

thank you :)

Try speaking to a local metal fabricating company to see if they can stamp the ribs in plain sheet...the corrugation is there for a reason, to give rigidity.

Ply - look for Buffalo board or stockboard - just make sure you give EXACT measurments when having it cut to size. Also quite easy to paint a groovy colour. Ali will need proper priming or the paint will just flake off.
