I bought a second hand HB510 a couple of months ago. I haven't actually used it yet (have been sharing with someone else no point taking 2 vehicles!). Anyway, I brought it home to give it a good clean/check the floor etc. I'm so glad I did, once I managed to lift the mats I found a rotten bit of wood at the side. So, it needs a new floor.

I've looked on IWT website and they do an aluminium floor kit for just over £300. Has anyone done this DIY?? Was it a major task or was it OK.

We were quoted around £250 for a new aliminium floor. The important bit to look at is the "edge" around the side that the floor sits on, sometimes these corrode and if they are worn even a new floor is useless.

i'm having my lorry floor replaced right now... the mechanics don't want to use aluminium as they say it oxidises and crumbles eventally... they are putting down Wisideck (not sure if that's the right spelling) which comes in 8' x 4' sheets, and is resin-covered and bonded plywood, totally waterproof... the stuff they use in the floors of refrigeration lorries, apparently. anyway, it's just another suggestion... it's not expensive... i was quoted about £200 for enough to do a 3-horse area floor. i'd take the whole old floor out and make sure you're fixing to good solid sides and cross-beams, and be sure to use rust-proof screws or bolts. shouldn't be a big job.

I changed my trailer floor to an aluminium one. Took the old wooden floor out, that was the most difficult bit.

Make sure you have several drills, one to drill the holes and one to screw the screws in with. Also need to pop rivet the extra pieces that come with the kit.

It wasn't difficult. Luckily my chasis was very sound so didn't need to do anything with that. My Dad and I did it without too much trouble, although my Dad was an engineer and has built his own kit car.

Just have to remember to wash the floor if the horse has a wee in the trailer and lift the rubber matting to let it dry. Should last for ages then.

Hope that helps.

Funny that I'm sure I can remember bursting a few blood vessels trying to take the old floor out with you, and help get some of the ally sheets in? But not a mention of my help in your post??
