Hi guys, I usually just lurk on here but though I'd post now that I've actually managed to get out doing stuff! My horse Hamish is 21 and I've had him since he was 13 but lack of transport and the on-going confidence crisis that is my life means we've never done much. Had a massive meltdown at the start of this year and nearly gave up on hopes of ever really competing, but I got my act together and decided to give it one last try!

At the end of July I entered my first ever hunter trial, I've wanted to do this for so long so I was slightly terrified! It was 60cm and after walking the course I actually felt quite calm!!!...ish! Still warmed up feeling sick, and the first 2 fences were VERY sticky and we had a stop at the 3rd. But jumped it second time and flew round the rest, its went so quickly I could hardly remember it. We went too fast but still managed to come 5th!! Ok, there wasn't many in the class...and a lot of them were kids haha...but we DID IT!

2 weeks later they had an ODE so I entered the 60 again, flew the cross country - way too fast this time but I was just happy that he was going forward!! Clear sj, and the dressage....well, its not our strong point. I came out and said to my friend I'd be happy with a score of 50. We spent the whole test trying to canter, we tripped out of the boards...so I was actually really pleased 39.5! And we came 6th :D

Then a couple of weeks ago we went to another hunter trials and did then 70, I wasn't expecting to go clear as there were 2 fences I thought looked huge, and a corner and a skinny. But he was amazing and just stormed round! I tried to steady up so we wouldn't be too fast again but we still were! Though not by as much this time. So a fab clear round but didn't place. Am over the moon with him though, he's just awesome :D :D unfortunately no pics from this one :(

Thanks to anyone who read this :D
p.s I bought the pics for social media use

Massive well done for getting out and giving it a go. Looks pretty good too and clearly your horse loves it, going by the photos. Looks great for his age. 👍

Well done on beating your demons and getting out there! Your horse is very handsome :D. What's next?

Ah thanks, he's a lovely boy :D Hopefully one more ode then I'm going to attempt some arena eventing over winter!

Thanks! He does love it, which is why I really just want to make the most of it while he's still able to do this sort of thing!

Congratulations. ...

I can't wait til I get my baby pony out competing a bit more :)

60 and 70 cm sound about right..

Fiona

How old is your baby pony? I'm so glad 60cm classes exist haha!

Fantastic, well done. The first step is always the hardest and most frightening, and you've done it! 3 times now, successfully! It's not the placings that count at this stage, it's getting round confidently and safely, the placings will come in time but you've done brilliantly so far! Keep it up!

He's only 5, backed in the spring, and I've not jumped in years, so we're staying well within our comfort zone until we get a few more miles on the clock lol...

Fantastic well done - pictures are wonderful.
I love your horse. Has he got some Arab blood in him?
Yep, I have no idea of his actual breeding but he is apparently arabxwelshxtb!

Thanks so much, yep I'm not bothered about where we come, just getting round and enjoying it is my aim for now! Just need to keep getting out :D
