This was definately a success!

Some of the showjumps only appeared to be about 2ft 3, but the xc was much bigger (it incorporated a couple of intro fences), but it was still a great experience.

I think the ideal time for the xc was a bit too tight for such a low level of competition, as there were only 2 people in my seciton that didn't get any time penalties.
But on the other hand, they gave an alternative to the lake, which is a good idea although I took my horse through it because he loves water!

I thought I was going at a good speed in the xc, but ended up with 21 time faults

It was a hot day though, and I had just been running around the xc course because I was only given 30 mins between my sj and xc, so I was exhausted!

In the end I came 8th, which is ok I guess as it's my first BE comp.

Anyway, to sum up, I think it is definitely a good idea to properly introduce it as a new level if they edited a few things.

Well done!! great result!! I expect the time was the same as PN/Intro and you have to kick on a bit for those.

whats next then? Intro??

Well done! Eighth is brilliant!

I have to say, before they relax the time I'd like to see a few more run, simply because most people when they very first start out get time faults because they can't judge how fast they need to go, and it's only by doing it they work that out. As this is meant to encourage people to go intro, better to get the feel for it at training level than to think you are ok going slower if that makes sense? I dropped back to intro at the beginning of this year and got time penalties for going too fast as I had forgotten how much faff time they give you at intro and my horse had got used to going in a faster rhythm and didn't really need setting up for any of the fences.

Yeah I guess I need to work at a faster pace to move up the levels, I have a video of it so I'll watch that and see how slowly I was going!

Luckily my horse loves xc and never refuses, so the only thing to sort out is getting him moving a bit more- he can be very lazy!

It never feels slow when you are there, it's only when you see the time penalties that you think how on earth? but I was going flat out

I reckon a few more and you won't need to work on getting him moving, he'll have figured it out himself - mine has learnt what '5,4,3,2,1 GO have a nice ride' means!!

Again, really well done, wish I could manage an eighth!

8th on your first attempt is brilliant - well done! Was there not a lot of consistency between the XC and SJ height though, I used to think that with intro XC sizes, some were tiny and then you'd get the odd random bigger fence thrown in.
Well done again, would love to see some piccies

Well done, that is great for a first BE.
Just kick on and don't waste any time getting too straight for fences. Practice jumping on an angle and you will get the time easily.

Yeah, the main thing I noticed was the variation in height between sj and xc, as I said they used some intro xc fences but it was fine because the intro fences weren't particularly challenging, just brushes and tyres.

I should have planned my xc route better, but didn't have much time to walk it as I arrived late because of traffic.
I know my horse can go at a really fast pace, I did an unaffiliated ODE a couple of weeks ago and got no time penalties, although the course was pretty short (only 10 xc jumps).

I want to do intro but I think I need to work on my dressage before I move up a level, as at the moment I'm only getting 6s and 7s, but I've been told that I could get 8s and 9s.

But my horse used to be awful at showjumping, always getting 16 or 20 faults for knocking down fences, so I spent loads of time jumping and now he goes clear most of the time

I guess I just need to spend more time on dressage now.

I looked on the website but the photos aren't up yet.

Well done, I watched you SJ whilst we were changing fences from PN to training. Your horse is lovely.

I think the event was quite a success the standard of riding was very good, the organisers weren't sure what the standard would be but hopefully they were pleased with it.

We were fence judging at the last so we saw horses start off and finish and I think many people were getting time faults because there were quite alot of baby horses who were a bit spooky.

Thanks! The showjumping went really well, although I think I heard him hit a couple of the jumps with his back feet but luckily the poles didnt fall off.

Some horses didn't look too good at the showjumping, they seemed very "stoppy-starty" , so I guess they must have been youngsters that were spooking at the fillers.

One of my instructors did it on her new ride and had some very positive results from it.

Well done on your 8th place - onwards and upwards
