Does anybody reproof their own rugs? I like to wash mine myself every year which I do at the laundrettes and then I send them to my local tack shop for any repairs but I would like to reproof them all this year aswell, how would you do that yourself? Also, what is the best washing powder/liquid to use to avoid stripping the 'waterproofness' as much as possible? Thank you

I've washed and re proofed my own. The best thing to wash with is the nikwax rug wash, and a scrubbing brush.

I then used the nikwax rug proof, and they came up fine. I also let mine dry naturally, in the barn, or somewhere where you can hang them up, as they hold a lot of water!!

I used an old bath for mine, rather than put them in the washing machine, as, the lightweights fit in, and the medium weights, but there was no way the 7ft heavyweight would have made it!!!

I used a pressure washer for the inside and out with rugs hanging on a fence. I don't like washing them in a machine as they lose their waterproofing.Choose a dry windy day though!
