Hello,

I am about to buy a yearling cob and am looking at insurers, but a lot of them are attached to phrases such as "don't touch with a barge pole"! I was just wondering if there are good (but affordable) insurers out there who pay up without fuss.

I'd be very grateful for any suggestions on which companies are good and which are bad

Thank you!!!

Petplan too, never had a problem with them. just make sure you don't take out unnecessary things as they can really bump the premium up (eg loss of use and tack insurance for a yearling) - they do a good youngstock livery policy.

I know someone who is with Petplan. Their horse was hit by a lorry last year and they informed them of the injuries, one of which was an over reach incurred in the accident. That foot is now excluded.
The other issue is it needs to go for a lameness work up and they have told her they will only pay for any scans or x rays if a problem is found in that area.
Personally I'd use NFU every time. Though not the cheapest, very good to deal with & don't slap on silly exclusions all of the time.

Have a look at KBIS they offer a much better cover than NFU. My cover allow £5k per incident with unlimited incidents per year and still half the price of NFU.
