I have a shetland and I use it to thin down this enormous bush that sticks out of his bum. It doesn't matter what I do to his tail, within a few weeks, it is dragging on the floor again.

For the TB, I want a neater appearance, like you. I just use it carefully on the sides of her tail (only) and only part way down the dock. I also use a solo comb on the side hairs and then trim any other bits with scissors.

I think you need to be careful you don't go too mad. The problem is, this gadget works better on coarse hair and with a TB that had a fine tail, I don't find it really effective.

I've just used one for the first time and its sooooooooooooooo easy to go mad, but as Tracey01 says I used just to half way down the dock then my farrier suggested I use my cordless clippers to tidy it up which I have. But what I can't seem to manage is the V shaped bit on the tail top and bottom. But her tail looks nice and I'm happy with it. I used it on a Friesans tail which was the thickest tail I have ever laid eyes on!!!! I just though OMG nothing is going to tackle that but the rake worked wonders on it.

don't go near the forelock with it.

I attacked my daughter's shetland with it to get rid of all the dry and dead hair in his mane and tail. His mane and tail look fine, but his forelock is a little short

Like others have said, it is hideously easy with the tail rake to overdo it, it's such a great gadget! I'd have a practice on an underneath bit of tail first. Or a friend with long hair he he.
