Required age for hiring a horsebox?

Hi, does anyone know of any companies in the South West that hire out horseboxes that can be driven by a 22 year old? Everywhere I've found says you've got to be 25

I think most of them are 25 for insurance purposes. It is worth ringing to find out if there are ways around this such as paying extra insurance.

I now Rent Right in Newmarket are 21 - I thought everywhere would be 25 too, but I called them and they said it was 21 because of the number of racing lads/lasses they had to supply for. I know RR is too far away from you, but perhaps try the self-drive racing orientated firms?

I don't know if Halcyon Horseboxes would? They're based in Bristol.

Nope, they were the ones I was planning to use but it state 25+ in their terms and conditions

Try Halcyon anyway. I'm 24 and have used them, if you call and have a chat with them they are often quite happy to call their insurance company and ask.

Would you recommend them? I'm planning way in advance for a show in Okehampton but haven't used any hire companies before, what are they like?

Yes they are excellent!

I have hired the lorry twice, for a vets trip and a once to a dressage comp. They are really happy to help with any questions and were very accommodating about returning it too.

Also the cheapest place I've found to hire 3.5t rear facing lorry. I have a bad traveller, so have to be picky about what I hire.

they all state 25 but ive hired from atacanter and manningtree and they both insured me when i was 21 and 23/24 i just had a 750 excess instead of 500!!

Thanks guys, phoned Halcyon and their insurances will insure me so all good, yay!

Now I have another question, the lorry is side loading... Haven't used a side loading before, is it much different from rear loading?
