Just seen a cheap one on robinsons website, how do they come up size wise and are they really cheap and nasty? My girl fits well into her weatherbeeta and amigo rugs, she is fairly broad across the chest.
Thanks

I have a summer sheet from Robinsons, nothing wrong with the quality considering the price but it is plenty big. It is from their petite pony range though, Elspeth is usually a 3ft9 and she would have easily fitted in a 3ft6. What the "proper" size rugs are like I have no idea. Hope they are ok as I have just ordered one for one of my other ponies!

I have a couple of stable rugs by requisite. They are a bit large round the neck on both my mares (one normal, one broad) so I am going to have to put a couple of darts in them.. No other problems though, seem to be nice and warm when they wear them and they didn't move. Just don't want them pulling down past the piont of shoulder and putting pressure on withers.

Well, we were all loads of help there!!!

I have some old ones (about 4-5 yrs old) and they have been used every year and look like new after being washed (by professional cleaner) however they are all stable rugs. They have nylon outers so shavings/straw etc doesnt stick to the rugs and they have cotton linings but they dont slip (I find the nylon lined rugs tend to slip). I think the buckles are a bit rubbish - sometimes the straps are fractionally too wide so they are a bit stiff to do up. But then I find the surcingles on the new WBs really stiff as well.

The turnouts I bought as spares (they were on sale) lasted about 30 seconds on one and about 2 days on the other. They were patched up and lasted about 1 season as spares when the main rugs were drying before I threw them out.

I think they come up on the larger side - so if you are between sizes go for the smaller one. They fit broad chested horses better I think, if choosing a standard neck, but I found the high neck ones to be a bit small across the chest (never tried a combo).

I have the woolen newmarket rip off one

use it as an under-rug, it looks very smart and i have had lots of compliments on it! its very warm and does the job

I had two and they did just what you expect, lasted one season, kept horse warm and dry - though not comparitively to better rugs, but good for unclipped horses or natives I'd say.

I got one and sent it straight back. My girl fits WBeeta really well and Requisite came no where near. It was not deep enough round the barrel and the chest was no where near big enough plus there are no darts around the shoulder so she would hardly have been able to move. There is no way I would buy one ever again. You get what you pay for imho.

I just bought my chunky man a robinsons rug, i will find the link for you.
Hes 15.2hh Irish x so hes a cobby build and i got him a 6.6''

He only arrived on saturday but it's fine so far, no rubs or anything, fingers crossed!

He also has two w.b's for slightly colder conditions and one with a neckrug to alternate with the robinson's one. They fit really well for his build

I've considered buying these and have to laugh, as this thread was no help!! Some say too big, some too small, some big necks, some small cups. Good quality, crap quality...
