Went to PaH today to get some more Prize Choice blocks and at the back of the store they've built a new extension bit to house a Dogs Trust promo area - an information desk, pics and profiles of all the dogs up on the walls and... wait for it... a mock living room, behind glass, housing rescue dog du jour.

Yes, that was me with my nose pressed up against the glass. I'm not even a greyhound person but for some reason that setup near as damnit had me reaching for the adoption papers. Something about the poor skinny longdog curled on a sofa in a fake living room, looking mournfully through the viewing window. Argh!

Marketing genius though, he was getting a lot of attention. :)

Sounds like a great marketing plan, think I'd best keep away. There is apparently a Lancashire Heeler in at Roden at the moment, poor little chap.
On the subject of pet stores, did you know there was a new pet superstore Petstop, opening in Telford tomorrow. Its an Irish chain apparently and this is the first store in the UK.

At least you didn't come home with an extra dog! :p

I didn't know it opened tomorrow MM, have seen the 'coming soon' signs, it's by Sainsbos on the Forge retail park. Don't suppose you know if there's any introductory offers on, I might have to stop by. ;)

Great Idea, I looked up that Lancashire Heeler George and he looks lovely. Why dont the dogs trust contact Lancashire Heeler rescue it isnt as though they are inundated considering they are on the vunerable breed list.

Forgot to say that I've heard great things about Roden recently, the whole place has apparently been rerfurbed including more of these faux living rooms for people to view dogs in. I'm still bitter because they wouldn't rehome to me but they seem to have a better environment than the RSPCA which is solely kennels.

Damn you both......guess where I'm going at the weekend!!

Taking OH to Roden almost had me going home with 4 boxers, skinny dog would be much better suited to my two.

ETA - It really is much better BC, friend works there and despite her reference they wouldn't rehome to me but it is soooo much better now.

Oh dear :( I'm afraid if I saw a dog I like, I'd have four very soon, not three!

I need to go to P@H tomorrow or Saturday. Creature needs a muzzle, I ruddy cave with that one. :(

I'm all in favour of rehoming and am gearing up to finding a rescue dog myself in the next year or two but is it really appropriate for a tv advertising campaign by the Dogs Trust (and this stunt by your Pets at Home) to appear just a few weeks before Christmas?

My OH has banned me from PaH lol, I've come home with several adopted rats I've rehomed, dogs would be leathal lol. Not that they'd let me have one because I already have a lot and I work  you'd think finding a good home was more important.

Who's giving in and going to fetch him then ;)

I have a extra guinea pig now thanks to PAH adoption scheme. And he had a fungus infection that I could clearly see, but I felt sorry for him....

God I hate PAH I only buy kong squeeky balls, guinea pig food and fish food from there thats it. How I came out with a guinea pig I dont know.

As far as I'm aware they won't actually let you take a dog during the Christmas period - you go through all the processes, home checks etc. as usual but they'll make you wait until January. I'm prepared to be corrected but I think that was their policy last I heard. :)

Just in case anyone does actually want to go and rescue the skinnydog from the fake living room, her name is Annabel, she's 1-2 years old and likes comfy beds. :D

Naw! It's probably more to do with discouraging people from buying Christmas pups (dreading the 'ready for Christmas' ads which will appear on the right hand side of this page although doubt H&H will turn down the ad money :() and waiting until they get chucked out in the New Year instead.
