Thanks everyone who offered such great suggestions for my rescued gypsy cob mare who has now recovered from appalling ragwort induced sunburn so all the hair on her poor, poor face has re-grown. The upshot of this is that she now has the sexiest curly moustache that I adore and a MAHOOSIVE ugly beard! And would she let me trim her beard off? No. Striking out, head shaking, generally saying no very strongly. Kicked me a corker in the thigh. Anyway, thanks to one suggestion (that I should have remembered) I have spent the last few days doing advance and retreat with first a teensy stripping comb and then one of those combs that you put a stanley knife blade in. I started just running the comb down her neck and have worked up to her jaw line and now along her jaw (into the offending beard) too. She hasn't batted an eyelid and I'm over the moon! Just a few strokes and STOP the split second before she would have started to object. Thanks everyone...patience and horse psychology works best! xxx

Well done - post some pics so we can all admire her
