My horses are in a field just a few hundred yards from my house, on the other side of a river. I also have a wee paddock and stable at my house. At 10am this morning I got a call from a neighbour who said you need to get here now or you wont get your horses out :eek:He said he’s sat and watched the level rise 6 inches in 10 minutes!!!

The problem being I have a 4 1/2 month old baby and was home alone! To top it all my truck, sods law, is in for its service so I had my hubbies wee fiesta!! My plan was to go down in the car and leave my baby with the neighbour and get the horses back safely by foot, then go back for him. However I got in the car and drove down over the wee bridge to be met with the river having burst and running over the road. I got out of the car and said neighbour saw me and came out and stood at the other side of the water and shouted over he didnt think id get the car through :( I paddled about in it thought i didnt want to risk it with my little one in the car - looked across and to my horror saw my 2 marooned on a tiny dry patch by the gate - the entire field being under water  I dont mean standing water a few inches deep either -think proper angry fast flowing torrent! : Im also looking after another neighbours horses at the moment who were marooned up at their stables, which at least they can get into and is up a steep bank.

So I had to reverse the car back and go to another neighbour who thankfully was home and get her to look after my baby while I ran back down with headcollars, not quite knowing what I was going to do! I got across the water with a hand on the fence. It wasnt that deep tbh, top of my wellies but very fast flowing and i could really feel the drag. I know in years gone by a car was washed off there down the field

I got my 2 and honestly lol (im laughing now looking back) it was like something from a Jinny book. I got them to the edge of the water on the road and by the time Id got back it was way over my knees and very noisy :( I was so worried they wouldnt go near it. Lolly my mini shetland was following a little behind my Sec D on a longer rope and I literally walked purposefully to the water and had to shout over the noise to her and my brave brave girl didnt even falter or hesitate! She snorted and was a bit wild eyed but she followed me steadily into the water and didnt question! Lolly applied the brakes and bless her, went no way Mum, its up to my tummy  I was literally stood in the flood with Joy , with Lolly at the end of her rope shouting to her and hoping she would take Joy’s lead and bless her, she did and kind of plunged in and half cantered, half bounded through!!! I have never been so relieved !!

So alls well that ends well as they are safely in at home now:) It was always something I worried about, being on my own with my baby but its shown me there is always a way in a crisis:) Not too happy about my fencing or jumps though:(:(:(

 what an ordeal! Glad they are safe at home, and that you managed to get through your crisis and keep calm! Think I would have had a breakdown in the middle of the field/ocean!

i dont know about the bees, i think the owner (not mine) would have moved them before they came to harm as it was them who called me initially to say how bad it was. Ive not taken my girl xc yet but when i do, if she ever falters at the water i will know she is having me on lol

Holy moly jackanory!!!! You are one brave Jinny-like lady thank goodness your neighbour saw what happened. I actually did a real life "phew" at the end there... well done for saving your neds and hope everything returns to normal soon. This rain is unbelievable we're having. When will it end...

Wow, we are pretty dry still down here !
thank god that they let you lead them through it they obviously trust you.
Def wine and chocolate tonight !!

I got my truck back from garage so manage to go round the long way to my neighbours horses that i am looking after and this is how high it is at theirs - they are on the hardstanding and have access to the stables , I just really hope it doesnt rise as i have literally nowhere to move them to!

Where on earth are you? The fields are just a river....has this happened before? your ponies were very brave and so were you. I am sure they know when they better be good for their own sakes. Just shows they really trusted you to lead them etc, I would be satisfied to think that.

That does look so scary.

WOW!! Queen of calm. Well done that looks pretty scary. We've had a bit of rain but that is awful. We will all be calling you in an emergency. Be very proud !

Well done you, its scary enough just looking at the pictures let alone actully having to tackle it! Bet both you and your ponies are relieved to be away from it!

aw thanks for the nice comments - i wasnt that brave really:o We in South Aberdeenshire, near the border with Angus. Yes it has flooded before, it flooded 2 or 3 times in 2009/10 but you had warning then and some time to play with as you could see river rising high. What was scary was how quick it happened this time:eek: Its never been this high though:eek: There were sheep beside my field as well and Im yet to find out what happened to them:( it was a really horrible feeling though, knowing my horses were in a crisis and needed me and yet knowing that , of course, my baby comes first. It tore me up seeing them and not being able to go straight away and I was so relieved when the neighbour was home and I knew my wee one was in safe hands, I can tell you I legged it top speed then to go and get them! Its the fencing and my jumps etc Im upset about now :(

ps of course after it had happened and I knew we were all safe, I collected my babba, got the raincover on his pram and went along with the camera to get those pics cos otherwise Im sure Id not have believed it myself!
