Felling very frustrated can't say to much but looking into a rescue from a particular breed rescue. Filled in a form that virtually included the colour of my socks! I know they need to be careful offered references from dog professionals.
First dog I liked the look of they decided was too enegetc i have had 6 of the breed all from 8 to 9 weeks i know how energetic they are and live on a smallholding with plenty of dog secure space for them to run safely on the property plus an indoor schooling arena for exercise when very wet with a small agility course around the perimeter.
Second dog i liked was a little older 2 to 3 ish they decided it had a strong scent instinct so not suitable for a rural location .2 of my 6 were strong scent dogs and we trained and managed it fineplus the property is set up a much as possible to prevent escape plus they are never out of my sight when out on the property.
I am now waiting their thoughts on a third i liked. I know this breed well we do not work so are home all the time and when we go on holiday in the uk the dogs go with us when abroad i have a reliable house sitter i have used for 12 years.
I offered references from my vet who incidentally thiks we are a perfect home and very experience with dogs and my house sitter. I have a young dog of the breed who has no issues what so ever is social and friendly and gets on great with other dogs.
I am now wondering if i just go down the route of a puppy but i really wanted to give a young dog a second chance.
will perserverfor now but begining to wonder if I am waisting my time.

It does make you wonder whether running a rescue centre attracts people who don't really want to rehome - and then you come across disaster stories where a dog really should not have been rehomed at all. Cat rescue is often worse - if you live within sight of a road through binoculars it's a no! Do you have any links to rescues in other areas in the UK that may consider your options?

They sound like a lucky rescue that can afford to be picky with a selection of "perfect homes". I can see why it would be frustrating for you but if you are in their position and can do the work to find the most perfect home for each individual dog, why wouldn't you?

If they haven't done an in person home-check yet and this is all through applications and emails you could ask that they come out and see your place and get to know you earlier in the matching process. Your home does sound perfect from what you've written but maybe it hasnt come across perfectly to them yet!

I asked them nicely if they could do a home check and they said they are far to busy to do that and only home check after they have decided you can have a particular dog.I offered to send photos and a video of the property but no they didn't have time for that.
The breed doesn't often come up in general rescues but I am keeping an eye out on some of them just in case.
Have rung the 2 breeders that I have most recently had puppies off in the past they don't know of anything but will let me know of they hear of anything.

Oh, that is disappointing. They must be overrun with applications, I know the rescue I work with get absolutely flooded as soon as we advertise a popular breed (a merle Frenchie nearly broke our poor admin's brain). Or just understaffed like many a rescue. Still, not great.

At least you can be sure that if you do go for a puppy they seemingly don't have a problem finding homes for their dogs, which is something positive?

My thoughts exactly. You would have thought they would have at least taken up references from a reputable source i.e. vets (which incidentally they didn't ask for but I offered)
The form asked all sorts of questions but how do they know people answer truthfully.
I am really loosing the will!!

How infuriating for you. I do hope that you can make some progress soon. It sounds like the national charity that I tried to rehome a cat from. Previously, I had successfully rehomed two from them . Even though the allegedly healthy one turned out to be FiV positive and died six months after her arrival, and the second, said to be four years old, died of kidney failure aged about twenty. Both cats aged by my longstanding and trusted veterinary practice.

This is so frustrating, I'm so sorry. I've only ever had rescue dogs and cats my whole life, its something I feel very strongly about, but some rescue/rehoming centes are just a nightmare, and really dont do themselves any favours at all. A few years ago I was looking for a rescue dog, and a couple of places were just awful, I live in a rural location, I teach, so the dog is with me all the time, I've had a couple of cruelty case dogs, I also had references from vets and the rspca and I'm an ex small animal vet nurse, but none of that was good enough.

So I feel your frustration, but all I would say is please keep trying forthe sake of the potential dog, not all rescues are so ridiculous, I kept looking, eventually found a fabulous small independent rescue who got me the most amazing dog, who became one of the most special dogs I've ever had, so please, keep trying for a rescue.
