Was out hacking around the lanes and was going passed a field with 2 black ponies in that I know in. Something neighed from further up the lane so we just thought it was another person out hacking. Went round the corner to see a young coloured cob leaning over the hedge infront of us, in a farmers ploughed field. I tell my friend to turn around slowly and walk back they way we came so we can tell the lady down the road who owns the black ponies. As we started to turn, the pony climbs through the hedge and jumps down the bank onto the road.
We jumped off and stopped a cyclist and truck coming down the road. Ask the cyclist to ask the driver if he had any rope, no. So we slowly moved our horses up a side road with the pony following us so the truck and cyclist could go by and started to ring everyone we knew.
Mum and dad were on their way to Bristol and I couldn't get either to answer their phones. By this time the pony had go into another of the farmers ploughed fields. Had a group of walkers come passed who weren't at all horsey so couldn't help. Then I finally got mum on the phone who gave me the lady who owns the black ponies number. Tried to get her but she wasn't answering so mum phoned her neighbour who went round there. The black ponies owner said that this pony has repeatly excaped from its field, which is a couple of fields away from the field we found him in. She was annoyed that she had to come help us but we had been there near 45mins and with nothing to catch the pony with, 2 horses of our own and not knowing the ponies owner we were getting desperate.
Some more walkers came by, luckily one was horsey so they stopped to help us. As Hattie had taken a dislike to the pony and was trying to kill it.
So 15-20mins later the black ponies owner arrived, didn't bother to come down to us and started to feed her own ponies and poo pick

so the walker went up to ask for something to catch the pony with at least. She gave us a short piece of rope, no headcoller or anything and started having a go at the walker, demanding we gave the rope back after. She can be like that but its not our fault.

So I caught the pony and started to lead him to mine a good 2 miles away, with the walker leading Gyp for me. I knew it wasn't a good idea as we had to cross a busy bridge but didn't have a lot of choice the black ponies owner wouldn't help us. Luckily as we got to the end of the lane their was a field with the gate unlocked so we put him in there. Thanking the walkers profusely for helping us so much and hurried back to the yard to drop off my horses.
We then got back to mine and rang first the ILPH, they don't do weekends as they don't have enough resources, so then the RSPCA, no answer, the local police, no answer so finally ran our local horse rescue centre who couldn't do anything themselves as they only had two people working today but tried to find a RSPCA officer in my area to help. No joy but they are still trying. They said they suspect the owners will look for him when they find him missing and hopefully see him in there. I think the owner of the field we put him in will probably get the police out (if he can get hold of them) as its not the first time (I've been told) he has gotten out.
Fingers crossed he will be ok. He was such a sweetie.

We found a pony in the road near our village just after we moved here. This was before we had our own so we had no kit & the nearby paddock was padlocked. Managed to phone OH who was on his way home. He called in at a house where they had horses about 1/2 mile away. They came out with him with a headcollar & a bowl of food. I led him back to their place. They knew just who to call. Apparently the pony was a serial escaper. It was kept on it's own & the place we took it to were the nearest other horses. Son was convinved the owners would say that we might as well have it (he was only 9) had to keep telling him that only happens in story books.
