I need to do some research for a course I am doing. Any input will be welcomed.

'Have a think now about what types of livery yards you know about or have used. Take time to make notes on what basic types of services they offer (full, part, DIY or grass), and what was specifically included in the package. Ask other friends what is offered where they keep their horses.'

That is my research question. As I have never owned I horse

, I need input from other people if possible.

Thank you x

Mm, a typical intellectual and well-worded question from those highly academic equine college lecturers!!

Full livery- all feed and hay given,turnout/bring in, muck out, change rugs, and daily exercise of horse and daily grooming.
Part Livery- all feed and hay given, daily mucking out, turn out and bring in, rugs changed. No grooming or exercise.
DIY Livery- when owner pays for rent of stable and field and does all exercise and care herself/himself.
Grass livery- paying for rent of field and horse is turned out 24/7.

Well Pickle is on a strange livery really

He is on Full working livery Monday-Friday

This means he is turned out, mucked out, fed, groomed by the yard. He is also used for up to 2 hours a day by the riding school (he actually gets less!)

He gets grass turnout 8am- 4pm every day in winter then is brought in at night. In summer he is turned out 24/7

Shavings, feed and everything like that is included and billed for at the end of the month

Now at the weekend Pickle is on Working DIY Livery

This means I muck him out and do everything for him, but the riding school still use him for lessons etc

I dont know if anyone else has this livery offered but I find it great

I am on DIY assisted. So basically I am DIY do all my own mucking out, buy my own feeds and make them up, buy my own shavings and hay. I also turn out and bring in and do waters, rug changes and ride. However, as part of my DIY livery he gets his hay and breakfast given and turnout for one price, so I just have to bring in and do jobs as above.

My assisted part of it, is that I work shifts, so some days I pay for day livery so the YO does him for me. I still buy the stuff, she just mucks out, makes up my feeds, nets and turns out and bring in.

Our Full is - everything paid for and everything done except riding.

Hope that makes sense!

ok here goes:

I am at a yard that offers full, part and DIY livery (Leo is on part)

Full - everything done, all feed, hay and bedding included. Ridden daily (mon-fri), mucked out, turned out/brought in 7 days a week.

Part - mucked out, turned out/brought in mon-fri. all feeds and haynets made up but I buy my own feed in (bedding supplied)

DIY - owner must provide all bedding, hay and feed. Horse either turned out or brought in. Owner must muck out.

I have also had Leo on working livery where as they did everything and brought everything and was used in the riding school for a max of 2hrs 5 days a week.

Good luck

H is on loan to the RDA during the week, They pay for everything and in return I 'volunteer' at weekends on the yard and ride hime at weekends and evenings. When I say they pay for everything, I mean everything including insurance. All I pay is supplements but he is still my horse
