I am not going to say much about this, please google. I have been caught out and I cant prove it. Please be aware when you buy a horse and GET a blood test. I was too late.

Crikey, are you ok? I only hope you didn't realise something was amiss whilst riding. People that do this are so blurdy heartless, no thought for the horse or the person that buys it and their safety.

Thank you for responding so quickly!! It did take 2 weeks to realise. People need to be be aware of this often used drug in selling horses.

B******s!

Hope you're ok P2.

If anyone manages to prove someone's done that, it should be manslaughter.

Why do you have no comeback, if it was still in the bloodstream despite it being 2 weeks later (the report I just read said it can stay in up to 45 days) and you haven't put it there then it can only be the seller. Have you contacted trading standards. Without you going into detail I am assuming you have ended up with a dangerous horse that has been drugged to mask it's problems, even if bought at auction and beyond warranty time there should be a comeback surely. I cannot believe anyone can get away with selling a dangerous/drugged horse without one of the authorities being willing to get involved. It is disgusting if this is the case!

It should be that simple but unfortunately in law if both the op and the seller said they didn't put it there then the law most likely would not be able to prove who put it there.

OP I so hope you are ok and didn't get hurt!! Also hope you are able to sort it out

In which case (appalling though that it) perhaps trading standards may be worth a go, if the horse is now displaying behaviour different to that described by the seller, along with traces of drugs in it's system, then it is not fit for purpose. I know this really only applies if it is a trade sale but a visit from them might worry the seller enough to refund. I would also be looking at every law I could find that might relate to this in some way to see if it could be made to fit and get something back or justice at least. How can it not be a crime to do this, it is positively dangerous.

I have no come back as I bought the horse in july, was lovely, during 3 weeks changes appeared in this horse, gradually, bearing in mind she is a TB. I have since heard of this drug. I have to be very careful here, so please excuse me if I am being convaluted. I have to be careful. I have spoken to my vet who seems to agree that Reserpine was given to her, she had a dirty bum due to gastric problems that this drug causes. I just want to warn others of this mind altering drug that seems to be a secret.

Ah right, so no comeback! Poor girl, although I guess you may not feel that way depending on how bad she is! Why can people not just do the right thing instead of putting lives at risk. The report also said that if the animal needs surgery with this stuff in it's system then it could die because it's blood pressure could drop through the floor, sounds like dangerous stuff when mixed with horses!

I am going to bump this up. I am sorry to bore you but I think that this drug is life threatening, and needs to be read by as many people as possable. I should have explained more in my title.

Fully appreciate you are too late to take action for your particular case but I see no harm in ''running it past'' TS in case others have had problems.

Just googled and it appears you cannot legally buy Reserpine in UK and I would not expect vets to leave a client with a drug like this--I could be wrong, very wrong, but assume if your deductions are correct someone is illegally importing veterinary medicines.

Definitely worth a 'chat' with someone.

Yes, was just going to say - where did they get the drug from.

Hello Cuffy, I shall have a word with TS and alert them of this drug. At least they will be aware of it. I dont have any comeback sadly as I am too late. Just think blood tests, when buying are a very sensible idea.
