Has anyone used residential dog training? Any recommendations? I have a 7 month old working cocker spaniel. Recall and loose lead walking arent brilliant. Unfortunately Ive now had a riding accident and am likely to be off my feet for several months. The dog is being walked by a dog walker but is being allowed to pull and is going to develop worse habits. There are no other walkers in my area that I can use. Im tearing my hair out trying to come up with solutions,

It’s not something I’d readily recommend for pet dogs unless you are very certain of the training methods used, accommodation provided and what level of training you’ll be getting for your money. Or were you thinking of some kind of gun dog training? My husband is a shepherd and will occasionally take a sheepdog in for training and it can work well for those who can’t train their own dog for a variety of reasons from illness, injury or lacking in time or skill.

Unless you’re planning on sending the dog away for the full length of time you’re off your feet, I wouldn’t change anything. Yes, your dog (sorry, you haven’t said whether boy or girl) will have learned to pull on the lead with the dog walker but at least they are getting walked every day. You can then sort out the heel work once you’re back on your feet in a few months time.

Can you get a local dog trainer to work with your walker
I had thought about this but somehow I dont think the walker will be able to as she walks several dogs together, all of which seem to pull.
My bitch was already pulling prior to my accident but we were working on it. Ive broken my arm and pelvis so even once Im back on my feet Im going to be quite fragile.
Im just wanting a pet trainer. My only reason for looking to send her away was because I cant even get to the back door to let her out atm and it would provide some consistency for her. However I am nervous of sending her somewhere that isnt all it seems ...Perhaps I should just wait a couple of months until I'm hopefully walking again and the dog and I can work together with a trainer and put right all the bad habits she's developed?

I'm so sorry that you're having to deal with this situation: if you could give us an idea of the location of you and your dog, I'm sure you'll soon have some relevant advice.
At least, your dog is getting some exercise and socialisation.
Have you been given any sort of indication for your mend time?
From my own experience, try not to rush back into action too soon.
I did, >60+years ago, and I'm permanently lopsided. Still riding, though. KBO.

Just to add (re above) I broke my pelvis too: tiresome, but even with the lopsided mend, it didn't/hasn't stopped me doing everything I needed/wanted to do, on or off a horse. I'm lopsided, but I was a runway model for a world-famous designer after the accident.
A way round/over/under/through can usually be found.

I'm in Herefordshire. They think I'm likely to be out of action for 4 months. No riding for at least 6 months. My biggest worry is that my bitch is at impressionable age and if she learns to pull and other bad habits. will I be able to get her out of them later?

OK. My son (ex Army, Gulf War 1 etc) lives in Great Malvern, with his wife and teenage children.
All calm, conscientious, reliable animal people.
If you're able to pm me as to your location, and your ideal trainer profile, I'll set him on. He has lots of kind/reliable Army connections: if he knows of any suitable people he'll let me know.
I'm sure the HHO Hive Mind can sort something for you and Ms Dog.
