Hi all,

Just purchased a second hand dressage saddle that was originally made in 2007 so as you can imagine the saddle is looking slightly past its best (has been checked by a saddler)

I’ve never had black tack before and the big issue I’m finding is in certain areas (mainly behind where the stirrup leathers sit) the leather is wearing and starting to look slightly green. Any tips to restore life and a bit of colour back to the saddle? I’ve tried leather cream but it wears off in a few days so I’m hoping to find something that lasts and makes the black shine again! I've got a very comfortable saddle that I was given that unfortunately can look rather grey (should be black leather) in the areas where there is most wear, and I have found using a bit of black boot polish every eight weeks or so helps it look quite a bit better (in between using a proper leather conditioner). I hate scruffy tack and clean mine regularly but this saddle is so comfy and lightweight that I am loathe to get rid of it!

Boot polish does an amazing job. Back in the day we used it on the tops of all hunting saddles; mind you that was also when all the undersides would be oiled. I still use boot polish on faded areas.
