Due to being in Rome (rest of news about that will be in the lounge shortly)... Asti had her scan on Friday.

So - timeline is as follows - scanned and jabbed 7 Aug, in season by 10th, covered 11th but just once - out of season by 14th...

Scanned on 31st which would make her 20 days. There is a black circle there in her uterus.

Vet says its a cautious yes as he has concerns... he thinks its a bit bigger than he would expect, and is almost too perfectly round... odd comment I thought!

However second scan is next week and we should know for definite. Looking positive though, just keep things crossed as he says most mares reabsorb now if there are going to.

Oooh, fingers crossed she's up the duff!!

Is that a bit insensitive? Ok, fingers crossed she's got a bun in the oven

Take a look at these:

Indicator_to_EP-600x470.jpg

A is a healthy 15 day pregnancy. It looks pretty perfectly round.
B is 17 days.
C is 18 days.
D is 20 days.

The measures of "how round" and "how large" the embryo is at 16-21 days are not that useful as there can be a lot of variation. They are good for reference, but not the be all and end all. You can get a 20 day pregnancy that looks like a 15, and it can still be "normal".

Get her checked again in 1-2 weeks and let us know. Don't panic though

gingermare,
i know just how you feel...
my mare is due for scanning on friday and i'm excited and nervous and crotchety with my man (cause he's a cattle farmer and keeps saying she won't be in foal and not to be hopeful- the git)
anyway we had a late decision to get her in foal, she was scanned - had just ovulated, went on regumate for 10 days then scanned and jabbed (13th aug, then scanned again (16th) then agaain (17th) then inseminated (18th). there were 3 large folicles in there, so we're going in again on friday.

i will certainly keep my fingers crossed for you, do the same for me please.

Looked more like A but bigger than he would have thought he said, as the clustering of cells and irregular edge you can see on D weren't apparent - HOWEVER she is apparently a difficult mare to scan. She stands quiet enough so not in that way - but instead of a T shape to her uterus and ovaries, they tuck under almost...

She goes back on Thursday so by then she'll be 26 days so I'll be expecting to see the grey ball of cells in there - kind of prawn shaped isn't it?

So yes, thanks for everyone keeping theirs crossed, I'll keep mine crossed for anyone else awaiting scans too!
