Retirement/Full grass livery in the South East unexpectedly needed please

My horse has been retired on vets orders this week, it was unexpected.

I am looking for somewhere to retire her in the South East.

I have tried locally to find some grazing or a DIY yard with big turnout, as actually would like to still look after her daily, however there doesn't seem to be anything available around here (west kent, sevenoaks)

If anyone knows of any yards/farms that would have the space and time to care for my mare (pref live out), please let me know.

I would look on feed shop/saddlers notice boards. Last time I went to Four Elms equestrian near Edenbridge there were quite a few people advertising grazing. There are quite a lot in the area, you could also put up a card with your request.

Have you tried contacting West Kent Sevenoaks PC they may have members who can offer livery nearer you, or may be able to put something in their newsletters?

I saw this on horsemart, Gatwick is a little further away but still easy enough to get to at least once a week

The only other DIY vacancies I have seen are near rural Tonbridge, Matfield etc.

Also may be worth trying Sevenoaks RC. There was an advert for grass livery but for a gelding unfortunately.


Sorry to hear your mare has been 'signed off' I've got one of those and only 1that I can ride out of a field of 4 (due to injuries and age), luckily I rent a large paddock otherwise it would be difficult. Couldn't ever part with them.

My amre is having some down-time until I can find a shiny new home for her to go and give someone lots of fun, and she is currently living out, full time, at http://www.essexhorseretirement.co.uk/

The couple who run this are really nice, are happy for you to turn up at anytime and send regular emails with a picture oh your horse, reply to texts and phone calls at any time of the day etc.

My mare is currently living in one of the biggest fields that I have ever seen, She is a 19 year old TB, who has been rugged to the eyeballs in the past and has just had to live out in the harshest winter in a long, long tie.

But, they've kept my mind at rest and checked on her, rugged her as necessary (two weeks before any of the rest of the herd needed a rug!) and complete 3/4 checks on the herd per day.

They are also wormed reguarly.

This costs about £200-£250 per month.

Not cheap compared to a DIY grass livery, but for eople like me who just can't get to their horse, it's been a life saver.

There is a place in Ightham that does retirement livery. They advertise in Pegasus. Also another one in Swanley (also in Pegasus).
 
Hi there, I know this was a long time ago.. but I am in a similar position now and just wondered where you found somewhere. I'm also in the South East - Kent / Sussex / Surrey border. Any help appreciated.

Reading this with interest, I am about to give up on my horse and am considering a retirement home - it scares me to death after reading lots of horror stories about horses disappearing without their owners knowledge.

Any ideas on this gratefully received - I'm in Sevenoaks too!
 
Worsenden Farm do retirement livery In Kent. Lovely people, live on site with years of experience.

She might be full thought but worth getting in contact.
 
Maple farm liveries surrey/sussex border looks nice and surrey grazing has a good rep locally (don't know them personally, just came across them on google whilst I've been looking for grass livery recently)

Surrey grazing is amazing! although far from you there are checked over every day by the owner called Rosemary who is very experienced. They also have regular vet students on work experience. Lots od owners are abroad so Rosemary sends pictures. Everything is done for you so it doesn't matter if you far away. The horses are so happy and live in a herd. My 5 year old went there for a year as she had a injury she had an absolute ball there!
