Have a 17hh 13 year old tricky Warmblood gelding who I have owned for 7 years. 2 years ago he was diagnosed with arthritis in his neck and pelvis and struggles with any type of flat work when being asked to work in any sort of shape! He's a known rearer an bucker and although he loves his jumping and hacking he's not a novice ride! Vet told me to perhaps change his career so I put him out on loan as a happy hacker but it didnt work out because she could no longer afford it! She gave me 3 days notice to have him back so he's now back at my old yard on part livery as cannot bare him to retire into the winter as don't think it's fair!
Ideally I wanted to try and retire him for summer and see how he coped as I'm not sure he'd be happy just chucked out! He gets on well with other horses although he is protective over his food! He likes to go out in a field with all his mates where he is currently out in a group of 7 but he also likes to come in to a stable too. It's costing me a bomb on part livery and really don't know what to do for the best.
Can anyone recommend any retirement livery yard in Surrey, Berks or Hants that will provide adlib haylage in winter and preferably a barn type building where he can get out of the wind, rain and snow etc! I would need someone to do full care ie; rug changes, feed once a day etc u unless it is local to me than happy to come up a few times a week to sort him out and help out. A few people have said to pts but I cannot bring myself to do it :-( he's happy so won't make that decision! Let me know if you have anything suitable!
Also consider full loan to experienced rider who didnt want to put any pressure on him and who's happy to hack and perhaps some jumping. Would come with completely full wardrobe!
