After losing my elderly loan pony to Liver Failure, i am thinking of taking on a retirement livery. Im finding it very hard to see his stable empty and my other oldie is finding it hard not having his stable and field friend, they did everything together. I have a younger pony but want to keep him entirely seperate as he is a trickier character and 2 oldies together just works well.

Basically, Kelly, the pony i have just had to have put to sleep was on a long term loan basis, but his owners payed for everything, bedding to vet bills, everything. I would be interested in taking on a pony on a similar basis only more on a livery term instead of loan. I get alot of pleasure out of taking care of oldies in their later years and would really like to do it again.

Do you know if there is much of a demand? eg that someone has their childhood pony they have to keep and can afford to, just dont have the time or inclanation to do so? Id be interested to hear anyones opinions/experiences.

If I had such a pony. you would be the first person I'd call. I did semi retirement for a friends pony on this basis, but when he needed more in terms of grazing and field companions, he went to Sennybridge and ended his days in a totally perfect situation.

I think there probably would be demand for that. I look after an oldie at my yard because noone seems to have time for her. If I found myself in a different position I'd love to put Chex on a livery like that, with old horses there's often not many options

You're a very good person

I'm sure there'd be a lot of demand for that!

Put an advert up in your local paper, saying exactly what you've said here. I bet you'll get hundreds of calls!

Thats really nice, thankyou!

I hope i can find a horse to take on retirement livery, it worked so well with Kelly and i felt really good to give a needy pony a nice home in their later years. I always treated Kelly like he was my own, and never skimpt on anything for him, i was seeing to him up to 10 times a day in his poorly times and never thought any differnt, even though he wasnt mine.

I think it would be a good idea to put some ads up in local tack shops and papers, i could do with getting something sorted asap for mine and George's (other oldie) sake!
