Hello, I wondered if anyone had advice or recommendations for retirement livery. I would be looking for "full" retirement livery i..e horse to come in in winter/heat and to take care of vey visits/farrier etc. I appreciate that this might be seen as normal livery, but I suppose is the difference is that the livery owner knows that owners are abroad/away so takes more of a full responsibility role. Also there is no need for riding facilities and the priority is grazing and experienced care. Does anyone have suggestions/personal experiences for yards along these lines? Ideally SE/Midlands area but would be interested in all areas. Looking at devon and Yorkshire as well for example. Thank you very much.

WhereI keepmy retired boys they have permanent access to a barn so although not stabled in the winter as such they tuck themselves in for the night - and if its hot or raining. One of mine runs for cover in minor drizzle! Ad-lib hay in winter, the deal with the farrier & vet. I couldn't wish for more. They may have vacancies for 2, my boys are in a herd of 5 and they won't put more in there but the next door paddock is empty at the moment - and that houses 2. Bury Farm Stables Caddington (not Slapton the event facility), Beds, nr Dunstable, about 4miles from M1 j91722632927529.jpeg

Thanks LadyJane. I didn't realise they did retirement livery there. I may be looking for retirement livery in the future and it's probably closer than my current yard! I don't know Pat Cooke personally but I know of her. She's a very knowledgeable lady.

Pat is still very much present daily but her daughters now manage the yard (Pat may not agree ;)). I trust them totally to do the right thing with my horses and keep me informed if there is an issue. They have solutions not problems which makes a pleasent change. And my boys are not the easiest at times.....

I have a friend in Devon who has the perfect yard for full retirement livery. She has massive stables set up in such a way that the horses can come and go as they please or be shut in as necessary. The stables have lovely big beds and an all weather turnout surface each for if they can't go out for some reason. There's the option of individual paddocks but no horse is ever without a neighbour so there's no separation issues or fusticuffs/bullying. She has a washroom with a heat lamp and she lives on site. Honestly, if reincarnation is a thing I want to come back as one of her horses! I happen to know she has a vacancy as her rehab livery has recovered and gone home.
If you want her details let me know and I’ll message them to you.

I used to keep my horse on livery here, they do retirement livery and really look after the horses. It’s a lovely quiet yard in north Herefordshire, it’s about 20 mins from Ludlow or 30 ish from Hereford https://highviewstables.co.uk/?

The retirement liveries are basically on full livery (minus riding obviously!). Would recommend it! X
