Hey guys!

Share your experiences with exracers please? I'd love pics too ;)

Im a bit excited, just got myself a lovely ex racer to event in the future.
He came out of racing last year, and has got walk-trot-canter-without-galloping-off so that's good ;)
Just green and needs schooling as you'd expect!
He's beeeaaauuttiful!!
Suited to eventing as he really enjoys jumping, goes really fast out racing, but slows down for the jumps, then catches up again. :rolleyes:
16.1hh+ (Needs measuring) bay 8 year old gelding with two back socks and a snip and star.

My 'real' job is the early retraining of OTTBs for event careers. These are all bred by the same family, and have been bred to be easy enough for amateur riders in the future. My own OTTB on the other hand, is a different story.
I picked her up, and was told if I liked her after a 30 day trial I could keep her, if not she'd be put to sleep. It actually took me a while to see why they called her dangerous, but when I did... :eek: Turns out her 'rehab' had been rushed, as had her training, and she just didn't understand what was being asked of her. So I basically started with her from the ground-up. Right back to on the ground interactions (where she is a total sweetie, not the hell horse advertised!) for the first 2 months, then working up slowly. Most days we are now able to walk, trot, canter, jump, and even hack outside! She's still very opinionated (I don't understand, so I'll rear, the situation still isn't clear so I'll shut down) but hopefully we'll get some baby events in 2013, and once she's a happy confident girl we can go out properly in 2014.

If your's is the same horse I'm thinking of, he hasn't been heavily raced (which is always a good thing!) and is an intelligent looking boy, so I'm sure you'll have lots of fun together.

Your right, he's only raced twice I think, but was very much in the mindset!

I'm the proud owner of Handy Money, a 15 year old ex hurdler/chaser. We just hack and are happy with that! He's the safest hack, nothing fazes him! hates schooling with a passion, yet he's wonderful, very honest and genuine! He's a delight to have around and sometimes likes to think he's back in training! Bless. I've retrained him myself, having come from a lady who had some issues with him!
 
We collected our second ex-racehorse Tuesday gone. My eldest daughter has one who has been an absolute star but who currently has an as yet undiagnosed hind-limb lameness issue. So while our lovely superstar has a long holiday we have bought another. More heavily raced than our current horse and only ran his last race this August. He is very lean but seems to have a fabulous temperament - am struggling to believe we could have hit as lucky for a second time :)
 
I'm on my 2nd ex racehorse now :D.

He's lovely, he had a bit of reschooling before I got him but not much. He has been pretty easy tbh. He's 7 now and we do all sorts together from RC dressage, sj and eventing to low level affilliated bits and pieces, only limited by my desires not his talent! He's got a ribbon nearly every time out this year and is just a super allrounder, turns his hoof to anything! Came 3rd in his shpwjumping last time out :). He loves XC the most though and is a bit of a machine. He's a safe boy and even my nervous sister can plod round on him in the wind and rain and he won't turn a hair.
He's the apple of my eye and a real friend:-

My mum also has a beautiful one who has really taken to dressage and showing. He has won at every show showing so far in big classes so we are hoping he will do well at county level ROR.

They are all different but you cannot beat a good one. They are elegant, classy and brave :).
