Returning a horse to a dealer

Can anyone give me advice on how to get my money back on a horse i bought from a dealer? The horse was sold to me as safe and easy to do but proved to be a rearer - giving me a bad fall.

I phoned the dealer and told him i was not happy with the horse as he was dangerous and he told me to return him. Now he wont return my phone calls and wont return my money.

What should i do?

It's not a police matter I'm afraid, it's civil only. However, you could go the yard with someone and insisit you wait until you are paid ( take a flask as you may have a long wait ). If the people get threatening or violent then you can call the police!

look it up under the sales of goods act - keep the ad you saw for him and the contract, speak to trading standards. what where the terms of sale?

I am in a similar situation, the horse I bought from a dealer was supposed to be a safe, steady hack and has a serious napping/rearing issue. I am in the process of trying to get them to take it back giving me at least a partial refund ( full would be nice! ) or even swap it for something that was suitable, but so far I am having no luck!!!!!!!!

We are now having to take legal advice.

A friend of mine had a similar situation...The poice did naff all - Saying it was 'A civil matter' I dont understand why though, as it is blatant stealing?
Anyway, She returned the horse and they refused to pay her any money back at all. Trading standerds etc were quite useful as the horse was not what they sold it to be. It was a long battle and she didnt get her money back - But she did managed a part exchange and found herself something a little more suitable.
Dont give up, I like to think these people cant get away with day light robbery.
Best of luck

Phone up your local Trading Standards as soon as possible. Write down everything that has happened up to now and keep a diary of phone calls etc you have made/attempted to make.
I had a problem with a dealer who wouldn't take a horse back which was wrongly described. I went through trading standards and he eventually took the horse and gave me a full refund.
Trading standards will advise you on what to do and will act on your behalf if necessary.
Good luck!
