Returning to riding after 15 years... what jodphurs & half chaps do you recommend?

After a 15 year break from riding I feel really out of touch with decent brands and online stores for clothing etc!

I need a couple of pairs of decent jodphurs (with plenty of stretch!)

And a pair of half chaps and jodhpur boots!

When I was younger I had a really comfy pair of ariat half chaps and boots ... are they still a decent brand?

Any recommendations of jodhpurs/half chaps/jod boots appreciated!

Hi Quin. My first horse was Quin and he is now owned by my bff. Everyone has their own favourites. For jods I love Shire's Saddle huggers. I always get Ariat jodhpur boots, I find them an excellent brand. I don't know what brand half chaps I have, but they are a lovely strong, soft leather. If you are planning on riding once or twice a week then I would suggest that you don't spend a lot of money as you will get value from the cheaper stuff.
 
I am in a similar position - I returned after a (very!) long break!

I would say that the Ariats are about the best (not too cheap, though!) and I love mine - I've had them for about 3 years and still looking good! Being best quality, they will last if you are only riding occasionally, but you might not want to spend quite so much at first.

I like Caldene Three Tech Jods - they are VERY stretchy and not too warm in the summer, but cozy enough for all but the coldest of weather! You can get them much cheaper on EBay!

I think I will stick with Ariat then and buy some of their boots & half chaps ... I'm happy to pay the price as I know they last and still look good after a while!

I bought a cheap pair of jodhpurs a few months ago from Countrywide of all places and they have been dreadful ... they have disintegrated in the wash after 3 washes and stitching has come undone around the pocket! Thank you for your recommendations I will have a look for them online ... I used to be an 8/10 when I rode... now I'm a 14 so stretch is key :rolleyes:

I've tried countrywide jods too and have found them not to last well with holes suddenly appearing in unfortunate places :o

If you're looking for a similar type of material (cottony but with stretch) but that lasts better I've had a pair of Gallop ones for the last year which were both cheaper to buy (around £15 from ebay), more comfy and are still going strong!
 
I ditched my jodpurs years ago for some lycra running tights....much better! They look good all the time, stretch like your skin, you can feel everything through them, dry dead quick and they do not have horrible seams in the wrong places.

I'm not much good on the clothing front, as I'm a bit of an ebay cheapskate :o
