Due to my sheer incompetence, I missed Larkhill closing date but I noticed that Goring Heath (60 miles from me) is still taking entries for BE100.

This would be horse and I first BE100 - We did our 1st BE90 few weeks ago at Tweseldown getting double clear and he made the whole XC seem easy - not bothered about anything really and I would have jumped the BE100 track there on him having walked it. so ive decided just to go straight in at BE100 for next run (gulp!).

He also recently qualified in top 3 for 1m amateur showjump champs with BSJA so height should be fine but dont want anything overly complex/twisty as first BE100 run.

So views and opinion on Goring Health please as first BE100 outing?

Also a major point, whats the going like? Will it be hard or like tweseldown and lovely in all conditions?

All advice greatfully received!

My horse is stabled 1 mile from the course, the ground in the area is well drained and therefore can run a little hard during dry spells.

The SJ there is in a nice arena, the dressage has plenty of room but there have been some llama (or similar, mental blank ...) hidden behind the dressage arenas causing some exasperated amusement for some!!
XC is hilly, fairly bold but generally straightforward, if you thought Tweseldown PN was okay you should be fine with GH

Hi..

I've entered Goring and its my first 100 on my big youngster too. I also missed out on Larkhill which was gutting! I've probably asked everyone/anyone and looked everywhere for piccies.

These are really good

I have heard that it is nice, very hilly and more of a bold and big course than a technical one. Mine is ok with height but he can get very strong so I didn't want anything too techincal.

Looking at the piccies I think that confirms what people have said. There are a few big ones but they look pretty inviting to me and pretty dooable as a nice first run.

The only thing is it says open on the BE website but its open to enter to be on the waiting list. The classes are full. I got a bit excited and also entered Ascott Under Wychwood and hambledon BE100s with an UA at Aston le WallsIntro in between to have a confidence boost.

Frodo did the Novice at GH last Autumn too and I think the ground was ok - but he'd done the PC Champs at Draycott a few weeks earlier where the going was dreadful so don't take my word for it. The llamas were fortunately a fair distance away when we there so no problems from that point of view :D.
If you go through Pangbourne to get there, there's a fairly low bridge which our lorry squeezed under and then a toll bridge - which took us by surpise.

The dressage has been moved now, so the llamas are no longer near the arenas, but it does mean the warm up is tighter and a lot closer to the SJ arena and tradestands.

It's a lovely event, I would say more on the testing side though - both XC and SJ. XC is quite hilly. It drains well so I am a little worried the ground might be on the firm side with the lack of rain we've had recently.

One of my local events, and I do like it :)
