1. Lincoln Biotin - almost finished a small tub. just wondering if it works really, or wether theres anything better for a similar price.

2. Keratex hoof hardener (for cracky feet) OR the hoof gel (as its miles cheaper and it says it keeps out excess water, usefull in this weather! haha :)

thanks, everything will be helpful. :)

Sorry, cant help you i've not had to use anything on Nas's hooves in past. just recently though they seem to be breaking up, so thinking of trying kevin bacon purely because i have had so many recommendations.

had 3 horses on the last yard i worked who's owners tried keratex hoof hardener, it certainly made their hooves hard problem was they were so brittle that their feet shattered and broke up 2 of them had to go barefoot for a few months as there was nothing left to nail a shoe on to.
would be interested to see what others say
i use kevin bacon and have had good results with it

I used to add biotin but to be honest - a lot of feeds, such as happy hoof and healthy hooves have it in them.

Agree with above re Keratex - bit old fashioned and not favoured by farriers! Vote for Kevin Bacon!

Well in my books old fashioned works!! Keratex is recommended by farriers, as is Kevin bacon, they both work in different ways. The hoof gel is good stuff for keeping out water 'rot'

Biotin would help the hooves, so would stick with that :) Good hooves come from good nutrition, so Biotin, copper, zinc, calcium... and many others are important. But regarding the dressing, have heard mixed reviews about Keratex, but most people seem to like Kevin Bacon and Effol

I'd go for Keratex given the awful weather depending on ground conditions. Once cracking breaking has started, the hooves are too wet to chip off naturally. If you keratex from about 1/2cm below the coronet to the top of the first cracks/chips then you'll form a seal so to speak. Don't know as haven't used it but think the Kevin Bacon stuff is to increase moisture? Hardly what you need atm!

I agree with scarymare, more moisture is not good. All the science shows that the softest and most breakable hooves are the ones most exposed to moisture. The key is to keep the moisture content stable and correct.
