Hi all, this is my first post so excuse poor forum skills!

Took my pony Sid to the BE90 at Richmond to give it a go and see what he thinks of eventing, turns out he loves it! He's only 7 and only SJ before so I was pleased that we even completed.
The dressage isn't our strongest phase, and probably never will be... The test was fairly accurate but very tense so scored 37.5 which I was fairly happy with. Sid slipped on entry to the arena but managed to carry on without becoming stressed.
Worst bit over, we headed to the SJ which was on a surface and a bit of pain because I had to take his studs out and put them back in again for XC. Sid went round nicely and just had an unlucky pole.
I was nervous for the XC as this was only the third time he'd gone XC competitively. I needn't have worried; Sid stormed round making it feel effortless, and me very proud of him. Got a handful of time faults but it didn't bother me as I had backed him off a little to make sure I got a nice steady clear.
Finished on a score of 50.3 which isn't too bad to start with!
Felt a little intimidated to begin with, it was probably the huge lorries and warmbloods! It did feel a big step up from UA with the atmosphere and professionalism.
Thoroughly enjoyed it and I think I will be one of the eventing crowd soon enough!

Here are some pics of the day:

Welcome to the forum, a great report and well done at your first BE, you will get the bug now!!!

You were probably the only person to take out their studs, unless it was requested by the venue, we often SJ on a surface at events and just leave the studs in, there is enough to do without trying to get them back in again in a hurry.

It's mandatory at Richmond. They won't let you on their surface otherwise. And they do check!

They wouldn't have been, Richmond are pretty strict with the signs telling you to take studs out!

Glad you had a good run OP, hope you've got a deep wallet if the bug has bitten you!

Thanks and yes it certainly wasn't cheap... I guess I will just have to be very selective about the events that I do!

I did wonder if it was something the venue insisted on, it is not something I have known in this area and nearly all the BE events jump on a surface, it cannot be good if people are using huge studs and have a sliding stop.

It would be impossible at places like Pulborough where you warm up on grass then jump in the arena. I had some pretty big studs in last year just to cope with the warmup!

Well done though OP - warning - eventing is addictive and flipping expensive!
