Rheva wound dressing?

Has anyone used these? How effective were they at keeping the wound clean? Do they work on high movement areas such as a knee, and do they work when the horse is turned out? I have googled for reviews but not found much.

Looks like a good idea, but wow expensive. You could probably fashion something from animal polster for a lot less money (£20 for 2 meters). Looks like you will need animal Polster to keep it on in a high movement area anyway.

We started with cotton wool and vetwrap, and a neoprene knee boot over the top when outside ( the vet wants him out during the day now) but twice he has split it horizontally across the center of his knee, where the wound is.

Today's attempt is lots of polster plast, and a leather road work knee boot over the top for turn out.

There is a melolin dressing over the wound, but when he split the vetwrap, the melolin moved

Sorry never used that product, but re the dressing, when we had a fetlock wound earlier this year I taped the dressing to the leg with micropore tape in a figure of 8 . Though the polster stuff sounds more robust.

Is the wound open - i vaguely thought it was stitched? I feel for you- our fetlock wound took long enough to heal (it wasn’t stitchable)

I have used them for a “sarcoid” that dropped off. It left a hole and the flies were going mad over it, but it was on her stomach and we couldn’t bandage.

It stayed on for 24 hours between cleaning. Mare wasn’t thrilled about me peeling it off, but there wasn’t any major reaction, just ears back and a staring at me like she wanted to kill me.

I’d use them again, they kept the wound clean & the flies off but not sure how good they’d be for a high movement area, although my mare had laid down with it and it didn’t budge.

It was stitched, but the poor blood supply to the distal part and the frequent movement of his knee, even heavily bandaged and on strict box rest, meant it broke down. I think we're at about 4 weeks now - it's tantalising close to being filled in, and skin is forming at the outer edges, but there is a lot of granulation and scar tissue

ETA the polster pretty much stayed in place until I peeled it off after 24 hours, but it had sort of crumbled away at the back of his knee. It is pretty expensive, and in this situation I'm not sure much better than cotton wool and vet wrap TBH. I can see its use on body areas though.

That's good to know - might be worth at try a bit further on for my horse, when he's got enough skin to not need a bandage but still vulnerable to flies. They apparently do an extra bit for high movement areas.

Sorry to hear the healing hasn’t gone to plan. It’s so frustrating. Are you turning him out into field or just a pen? It’s bloody difficult with such a high movement area
