Looking for a new cheapish rug for my heavy gypsy cob.
He is a 6ft 9" in his old Fal Pro but hes only 15.1hh.
Has anyone any experience with this rug on a cob, and if so how does it fit on the neck and shoulder?
Also comments please on the rugs durability and performance.

If you have any recommendations for a good middle to heavyweight turnout rug with a built in neck cover please let me know.
It pouring and freezing here in the Highlands - we are all miserable and soaked and knee deep in mud!

I bought a Rhinegold rug (a LW) as I needed it urgently, and I was very disappointed with it. It's not even waterproof

I'd never buy another one I'm afraid.

With regard to recommending a good MW/HW turnout - I don't buy anything other than rhino/rambos now

I bought the Aspen rug about 6 years ago and it is still going strong. Never leaked, never needed re-proofing. My mare loves to roll in the muck and in puddles and has withstood that, also being hosed down while on her.

I have 2 one out door for my cob and an in door for my warmblood and personally i think they are pants would never ever but a rhinegold again. Crap quality on the indoor and it looks like a mini skirt on her. And the outdoor is rubbish they need to sort the tail flap out as the wind keeps blowing up my cobs rug and blowing it up half his back and that is with the stupid elastic leg straps.

But that is my personal thought.

The cob I ride has a Rhinegold combo rug, not sure what it's called but it's a medium/heavyweight and fits him well. Only problem with it is that it takes days to dry when it's wet and can be very heavy.

mine is great fit - nice and warm but the tail flap is pants - but i like the tail flaps on shires and weatherbeetas where its called a storm flap - so if they changed the tail flap would buy another one.

I find them tight across the chest (and Cappy is narrow) and short in length and body, he is by no means fat and it looked a bit like a mini on him. Don't know whether they last or not 'cos Cappy only wore his for a week and took the whole front out running through a gate! Overall probably would not buy again; personally I would rather buy a good quality 2nd hand one.

I have fal, premier, weatherbeeta, mark todd, rambo, all sorts of higher end rugs and although the rhinegold is not quite as deep as some of the others, it has certainly never let me down. Both my welshy and my tb have the aspen.

Storminateacup - no sorry, not a cob. Quite a fine TB but she has a broad chest. It has never rubbed her or the wee lad. People are right about it not being as good as others, but hers has never had a repair and has been really waterproof.
I would say they are a good option for the lower end of the market

Can you post a link to a pic of one please? I've got a Rhinegold combo with neck cover, MW, and am perfectly happy with it, but I don't know which one it is. Sizing is a bit small though compared to other rugs of apparently the same size. On its 3rd winter so far, no rips (unlike the 3x the price Mark Todd

), still fully waterproof. Neck cover comes up a bit short though, not really designed for a horse with a long neck like mine!
