Rhino Rugs

ish, I prefer the v-neck on them though do have a straight lightweight. The v-neck tends to sit forwards of the shoulders and doesn't pull but then I have needed to go up a size or his bum sticks out particularly if using a neck cover. - the neck covers used to be really skinny but have definitely got bigger though I do also use PE ones bought cheap.
yes- there was a lot of boy fighting in previous yard, they did manage to pull the tail flap off my 8yo one though.

who has one? I have three. I did have another one, but it fell apart (the outer fabric was worn through) a sad day as it was a great rug.

do you rate them?? Yes. Not as good as Rambo, but a good second choice.

are they big fitting? No. I go up a size as with all Horseware rugs (never has an Optimo though which is meant to come up big).

are they strong? Yes. I have used them on playful youngsters and 3 out of 4 are still going strong.

Yes, I have 2 with 100 and 200gm liners for my boys.
They are great rugs for the price and extremely versatile with the liner system. Not heavy at all and they have never leaked even in the worst of last winters rain when they were living out 24/7.
They fit well around around the shoulders, are nice and long around the tummy and generally don't slip much. Neck covers tend to come up large.
Fairly strong and for little tears where DP goes foraging in hedgerows I mend with Gortex patches.

I have 4 and love them. Have 2 med weights and 2 lightweights that I add liners to. They are very hard wearing and mine have never leaked. Had them for 7yrs +

Love mine, I’ve had a few and all as above have been very reliably waterproof and I’ve never had to get one fixed. My horses are pretty good with their rugs but I do think Rhino are really tough.

I recently bought a no fill and a 200g for new horse and both are strong and substantial. They fit well around the shoulders but perhaps a little short in length. As above not as good as Rambo but a very good cheaper alternative.

I have 2 - a medium weight turn out and medium wt stable, had them both for about 4 years now and I've no complaints - no rips or repairs. Size-wise I find them the same as most other brands - 6.3 stable and 6.6 turnout fit my 16.1 fine TBx very well. I like the turnout design (not sure if it's still available) as it has a slightly high neck so it's well clear of the withers but not too high to rub the mane.

Love mine have two of the wug versions for my retired 7/8th TB boy in medium and heavy weight and he lives out full time. Completely waterproof, and he’s in a herd and no repairs required so far and heavyweight is starting it’s 3rd winter. Always warm even when out in last yrs snow with no probs. Love the v closure system stops rug pulling back too much on his shoulders, and wug style has saved his wither which had gotten sore first winter out in his amigo bravo due to his high wither

For indoor rugs I buy cheap and then can bin them without worry, but for outdoor ones I only have Rambo or Rhino as they have been the only ones that fit well, and don't ;et the rain in. They stay lightweight when wet, dry in a few hours and I have had one for around 16 years, no leaks. I think the V closure with clips fits beautifully, they don't pull tight. Mine currently has a 6'3 and a 6'6 and somehow they both fit well.

They are not as long as some, but are long enough for my ID X TB. The shoulders are generous and don't rub despite not having a front dart/gusset.

I do not wash them though, just hose the outside and wipe the inside in spring before putting away. I believe machine washing, or using detergent, spoils the waterproof qualities.

If your "chance one" has been machine washed then I would not bother. In the sales, my last 2 cost around £110 (each). I would rather buy new and have 15+ years of waterproofness rather tan a second hand one that is possibly not going to be waterproof.

I agree, I’ve always had my rugs cleaned but I’m not going to risk it with my rambo’s or rhinos I like them too much. Must admit it’s bit of a struggle! I love a cleaned bagged up rug 😳😂

I never have mine commercially cleaned either. Hose down outside and warm soapy sponge to clean grease from inside if needed, dry thoroughly and store away. The liners are a doddle to keep clean though, just chuck them in the machine every week and they dry in a morning. Makes them smell lovely.

I think Chance is the horse, who would be getting the rug ;)

I've never had a rhino, but I'd be tempted having read this thread...

I’ve had 4 over more than 20 years — I still have 4 those that are not in use are only not in use because the don’t fit anyone alive! Great rugs - keep em dry, don’t slip - can’t recommend highly enough

I have a couple and think they are great, still in very good condition after 4 winters on my horse who lives out 24/7. I am another one who doesn't wash rugs, just hose them down in spring and sponge the grease off the inside. Convinced machine washing limits the life of the waterproofing.

Actually I have mine professionally cleaned and reproofed every summer and I’ve never had a problem with leakage in The 20 years I have used them

who has one?

do you rate them??

are they big fitting?

are they strong?

looking at getting chance one

do I have one - I have one original one left which is stored away

Do I rate them - in the old days yes not now, there are better rugs around now

Are they big fitting - Not in my opinion much to tight for my ID mare and other livery horses also find they are not very deep on horses- would rather go Fal

Are they strong - well I had an Amigo and it ripped when a horse grabbed it

So would not go down the Rambo route now
