Ricco or Vincent II - Coloured stallions in Yorkshire

I wanted to use Free Spirit over our WB / Welsh / Arab mare this year but due to the cost involved in AI we have now decided to look at a natural covering nearer to home. (North Yorkshire)

We want to preferably go for a coloured stallion to the aim of producing a nice 16hh or over sports horse.

Nell has good breeding herself as she is by a grade A SJ'er and she has a huge scopey jump herself so doesn't really matter if the Stallion isn't proven yet or just does dressage as we hope the baby will take on some of her talent too!!

Anyone have any experience of eith of the stallions I've mentioned or know of any other standing in the area that might suit?

She went to Icon's Image last year and has produced a lovely coloured filly but I thought it would be nice to go to a different stallion this year then maybe back to Icon's Image the following year when the filly is a bit older so we'll have a better idea of what she is turning out like.

I bred a cracking Vincent filly last year out of a Demonstrator mare. Mare is very like her sire, big old fashioned stamp of mare, nice mover and got a super jump and fabulous attitude to everything in life.
The foal (Diva) had heaps of suspension and improved on the mare's weaker points. She was Champion Dressage Foal at the East Midlands BEF Futurity having only been dragged in from the field and halter broken the day before (she was a last minute substitution). Diva has gone to a showing home and already doing brilliantly in hand, despite the fact she is only 1 at the end of this month.

Ricco is just up the road from us and I know (to speak to anyway) the girl who rides and helps with him. Have heard nothing but good about him locally.

Also has anyone heard of Samthan in Chester-Le-Street
He isn't too far away and he is by Samber

Not hard very positive things about Samthan I'm afraid despite the nice pedigree. Ricco would be a much larger stamp than Vincent. I used Vincent to neaten the mare, and reduce size a little

We used Samthan two years ago on our coloured mare and got a beautiful bay colt, stud looked after my mare well but didnt really like them as people and since seen more of his stock that isnt that good! we must of been lucky,

I have a friend with two by Samthan - one coloured, one solid and she is very happy with them. Last year she sent two of her mares to him and is currently expecting the first to foal. I've not seen him personally but she loves his stock. It would be nice to see more by him to make my own mind up or even to see a confo picture of him as he doesnt seem to be publicised much.

I have used Vincent and have a stunning coloured colt out of my Voltaire mare, he is gorgeous, great conformation and lovely movement, I wouldn't hestitate to use him again, if I had a mare I thought he would be the best cross to and the stud he is stood at were excellent with the collecting and shipping of the semen and the semen was great quality

My only advice is pick the stallion which you think will compliment your mare the best

I have used Ricco on 2 mares this year, we are eagerly awaiting scans.
Ricco is a lovely stallion with a great temperament, and the stud owners are lovely people who really care for the horses and their well being.

Hi, I used Ricco in 2006 on my warmblood Carnaval Drum mare and got a fantastic coloured filly "Knickerboker Glory" aka Cookie (Monster) She is the sweetest filly with the most laid back temperament and lovely friendly personality. She moves beautifully and overall I was so chuffed I have sent my mare down to be covered again this year!

I am lucky to own a coloured gelding who is Ricco's half brother (by Captain Maverick out of unknown jumping pony mare). CJ is fantastic, he does everything for me. We are on our RC dressage & sj teams, he does affiliated Chaps showing and just missed out on qualifying for HOYS at the Scottish Horse Show. He was 3rd at the RHS in 2006 (we were doing RC team jumping last year, came 2nd) He won my RC puissance last summer over a 5' wall (he is 15hh JMB measured I should point out, and is also 19 this year).

Honestly, if you want to have something that looks good, has the brain, temperament & movement - not to mention jump! to go on and win whatever you want to do, don't look any further that Ricco. He's beautifully put together, has a good strong well set hock, fantastic shoulder, well set neck, nice head, great legs - well he's basically a 17hh younger version of my CJ!

We went to see him at the weekend and really liked him, we plan to use him over Nell our WB/Welsh/Arab.

He is very well put together, beautifully marked, has a very calm temperament and his homozygous son 'Spotted Dick' is stunning, he is exactly what we are aiming to produce!!

Not sure about the cob mare, we're going to see what she pops out from Icon's Image before we make a decision.

We were seriously considering loaning them our TB mare - they were advertising for broodmares for them to breed a foal off first, then return the mare to you in foal to him for you - had to be TB's.

Sister has already bred from her mare though and wouldn't be able to keep another. I'm always a bit suspicious (sorry) when strangers come on just to pass comment on their first ever post, but in this case I really have heard a lot of good about him, and our company have worked with the owners before (not horse related though).

They seem really nice and knowledgeable and he's a lovely stamp of a horse.

You'll have to wave in our general direction when you go back - we're about 4 miles down the road!

My TB mare is due at the beginning of July to Ricco. I have sent 4 TB mares this time as I absolutely adore this stallion. His conformation is super with plenty of bone but one of the most appealing things about him is his fantastic temperament. My little girl (5) goes in with him. He is so kind and gentle which is down to all the hard work of his owners who are so dedicated.
Your mare will recieve 5 star treatment while at stud.
His homozygous son Pudding is an outstanding stamp and brings a real buzz for the future of breeding top class thoroughbreds.
