I keep seeing rice bran mentioned for weight gain, is it actually any good and is it safe for a cushings/lami horse?
Where do people get it from, and is rice bran oil any good as an alternative?
I'm having a fair bit of trouble putting weight on my mare, I'm currently using solution mash (and linseed), which worked initially but now doesn't seem to be have as much of an effect. She has constant access to hay and also a hay net of straw as well (if she doesn't have that she eats her bed, and I read its safer to feed straw from a net to reduce risk of colic?). She'll eat the straw even if she has hay left so it's not that i'm not giving her enough hay, she's just stupid
She gets fed 2 twice a day with a bucket of chaff at night as well, so she's getting constant access to forage.
Any ideas other that possibly rice bran? She can't have molasses or alfalfa
Thanks
