Rice Horse Trailers - Help

Hi everyone,

My other half had a Rice Trailer years ago but sold it. She comments now about how solid it was and would love another. Her surname is also Rice so maybe that's the connection ?

Does anyone know which Rice Horse Trailers would take a 17.3 horse?

There's a few around the country for sale but people seem to buy them for gin palaces!! And don't know a thing about horses.

They all have 7'6 headroom.
We travel 17.3/18hh horses in ours regularly and they travel very well.

They are very solid and well built which also makes them very heavy to tow. And, as you have discovered, they are in great demand for other uses such as mobile drinks bars, camping bathrooms, burger vans, anything and everything really.

If you find one it is going to need a really good examination and probably repair as they haven't been made for ages, so think floor, suspension, tyres, brakes, towing hitch at least.
 
I had a Rice Richardson which was ace! Dont know which model but it had land rover wheels. Used to jam 2 Percherons in it! (Not for long). Really strong trailer.
 
I had an ancient Farmers Hunt. I loved that trailer and it towed brilliantly. Only sold it when we had to downgrade to a less powerful car. We towed it with a 3.5 Rover SD. Since then had two Rice Eventers, the old style ones and loved both. I wish Rice were still made.

Where do people get this idea from? They are no heavier than Ifors, and in some cases significantly lighter. The lightest double Rice trailer is 623kgs and the heaviest is around 1300kg but that's for a triple horse trailer. most dubles run between 900 and 1100kgs
