Just wondered if any of you had an idea of how old a Rice Beaufort 'Popular' trailer could be. It looks like its the older solid partition and not the more modern split IW type. Its on Ebay and looks like it could make a decent price. Person selling it says its about 10yrs old which Im not doubting, just curious as it looks different to the usual Rices and appears to be in VGC.

Ive had a look and the only one I can find is a white one with a green/blue top part (difficult to see). If this is the one this is a Rice/Richardson. Not the same build quality as rice but still ok. Def worth a look. If you phone a Rice dealer they will be able to give you the price of both the Rice and the Richardson new and you can compare. Theres about a £1000- £1500 price difference new, Rice being the more expensive.

Ahhhh Richardson, thought the panels looked different to Rice. Thanks. It is the white one with a greeny top. Bet its the model before Richardsons current one so it probably is about 10 years old
Have seen the prices for the new Rice, they are over £6k now. Think the Richardsons are £4500 for the biggy. Gonna be 2nd for me Im afraid

Thanks again

We had a look at the biggest of the Richardsons before going for the Bateson - & thinking about it now, the Richardson could be ideal for you & your boy. We didn't go for it because it was more expensive, but it was a fantastic trailer - loads & loads of headroom & hugely airy / spacious inside with excellent ventilation. Really lovely trailer (BTW I am going to send you a bottle of champagne when you finally find one that suits!!

I'll take you up on that.
Im a pain really, I know. Friend says I should just buy one and put him in and get going, that I worry more than he does

Just cant help looking really, the trailer fund is burning a hole in my pocket.

Not at all! I think you are right to examine all options, even more so with everything that has happened with him. You are just doing your best to find something that will make travelling for both you & him less stressful.

Bateson are in Stockport - is that far from you? (my geography is not good!). If so, it may be worth getting in touch with them, or any other trailer dealer, and explain the problem. I am sure that, in their endeavours to make a sale, they would let you borrow one on a trial? I think I mentioned that their agent down here offered us the option, as did another trailer dealer we went to see when we explained that my Mum's horse was claustrophobic. Just like taking a car for a test drive! I am sure Bateson said it would be free if we bought the trailer, and a very minimal charge if we didn't. Certainly worth it for your own peace of mind before you part with that cash!!!

I better be the first you PM if you buy one!!! LOL

I had arranged to go to a Rice/ Richardson dealer in Cheshire last November then found Jay with his broken leg so cancelled and we had planned to go to Bateson in Stockport, not far at all from where I am. Im going to have to stop talking and do something about it. Had a look in a Bateson the other day with the Boston doors, very nice! Think it was a Deaville, seemed bigger than I thought. Shame I couldnt have whipped him in it but it was a clients.
I will sort it soon .... promise

An encouraging story for you........Mum's TB is a complete claustrophobic as I have said. He is a big TB too - quite broad. He was the one we were concerned about when buying the trailer as mine is a doddle to load and seems to like small spaces (

). He has now travelled (along with my horse) several times in our Deauville. The last trip we went on (40 mins there - 40 mins back) mine was a little sweaty, as usual, on unloading either end, and had dolloped a load of manure behind him during the trip, as is normal. Mum's TB..........bone dry, hadn't been to the toilet at all on the way there or back!!! I was fuming whilst cleaning out my half!

You will find one! Get going and try him out in a couple if you can. I am sure your luck is going to change! How is Mr Spooky anyway?

Hes fine thanks. Scared of a carrot yesterday! Im putting it down to the spring grass. Had the best schooling session ever the other day, he felt amazing, thats whats making me more trailer mad, I want to get out there now and do some dressage.
Had to laugh was on the bridleway at the narrow bit and 2 bikes come towards us, one had a trailer attached to it! Luckily they turned back and Jay didnt bat an eyelid when he passed. Im sure he takes the mickey.
They are supposed to be having a bike ralley on the scout field next to us soon so thats going to be fun. Could be just what we need.

That's really great news. I am so, so pleased for you. Brilliant result!!

They are all full of the spring grass at the moment. Mine unceremoniously dumped me in the school the other week. Only just starting to get the feeling back in my backside - but like you, am itching to crack on with him, particularly now the warmer weather is coming.

Good luck with the bike ralley - he probably won't bat an eyelid!
