Rice Trailers

I have an old Rice and think its brilliant. I prefer it to the lighter Ifor Williams because its heavier and therefore less likely to get a wiggle on going down the motorway. They are sturdy - built to last - not for speed!!

Thank you, I have heard the same so that's great. What type of flooring do you have. I have new 25mm Mahogany marine ply, but I ve heard ply is not a good idea in Rice trailer because chaisse struts are far apart. Having said that its very thick.

I have one & it has been great. The only thing that annoys me about it is that most of the fastenings are wind up - so it takes ages to fasten the front ramp for example, plus I often end up taking some skin of my knuckles at the same time. But horses seem to travel well in it & I like the solid wooden partition that goes all the way to the floor.
Over the years I have needed to have the roof fixed & a few floorboards changed on the wooden floor but nothing major.

My Rice is very very old, it originally had wooden sides! When I had it totally taken apart and rebuilt the guy doing it put in extra supports at the back for the floor. Its heavy but tows brilliantly, no weaving and everyone seems to travel ok in it. It could do with a lick of paint at the moment and one of the wind up catches on the front ramp broke so we welded it up.

I have an old rice europa.
Tows like a dream and has been resprayed so looks very tidy.
Wind up front ramp is not good but you get used to it.
Tow mine with a 3.0l Toyota Surf no problem

I just didn't fancy an Ifor Williams (certainly not a cheap one which would have been all I could have afforded) because everyone seems to have one and i could never identify mine in the car park!(need specs) Also I am an ol` lady so when I was a lass Rice trailers were the thing.

So whats everyones preferences out there,
Rice,Richardson, Ifor Williams, Batson, Wessex, Requisite - there is so many to choose from and lots of foreign too now.

Rice are good. Well I think so! The only one I think is nicer is the equitrek because of the living. I had an old beaufort and it towed beautifully. The only problem was the head room as it was so old it only had 7'0 head room so my 16.2hh didnt like it! Qell her ears rubbed on the roof! LOL! So now I have a B60. Tows as well but not the same build quality as the older Rice boxes although I do have the plastic floor!

Rice boxes are also less attractive to horse thieves as they are heavy to move
