Im really saddened by this, even more so having lost my dad last year of a similar age and ill health.
RIP - he was a bit of a national institution and I simply can't believe he was 79 - only seems like yesterday I was watching him on the 'good life'! I loved it as a little girl!! X

Such a sad loss. I loved Richard Briars. My first encounter was when I was a wee girl listening to story tapes before bed: he was the voice of Ratty (and I think narated them too?) in the wind and the willows.
Loved watching the good life, and he was great in monarch of the glen too.
He will always be the voice of ratty to me.

Yes i remember him as Ratty too & also the great Rhubarb & Custard - happy simpler times!
