Some friends and I went to see a Richard Curtis demonstration/display last night. Although I have seen Mary Ray a few times I hadn't seen Richard before, but had a great evening. He worked 5 dogs, at different levels of training/competition, but to me the absolute stars were Whizzy, a poodle x border collie, and Betty, a chihuahua x. He earned brownie points from the start with us by referring to these dogs as crosses, not giving them designer names, and they were a joy to watch. Betty the chi was very toy focussed, played with a rag etc and was a real character, ditto Whizzy who was a real clown. I don't know how often he does these demos but would definitely recommend . Clip below is of Whizzy at Crufts last year.

A lady who comes to the training group I go too has been up to Richards a few times with her dogs, I think she said he's putting some music together for her to work with one of her dogs!
She has nothing but good to say about him! Very nice man from what I can gather :)

Sounds like a fab evening, when you come away inspired - did he say how he came to have those particular dogs?

I remember he said he got the chi x at 8 weeks from a friend. I think he had all his other dogs as young pups, because he was talking about the importance of teaching them to play as young as possible.
I got the impression he likes to start with blank canvasses as young as possible, rather than sorting out other peoples problems.

He is a very talented man, glad you enjoyed your evening.

They are talking about doing classes where Darcy did her agility training so perhaps we shall see more and more people doing it. MM has it inspired you to have a go with Evie and Freya with Pickle putting in the occasional performance.:)

I think Pickle would be a natural. I do twirls and things with the girls but that is about it. Freya's sister has gone to a lady who won the freestyle at Crufts this year with her border collie and competed there with her previous shepherd, so you never know, one of the family might hit the high spots.;)
