No did have a session with Suzanne Marshall though which went really well. About 3 weeks later little mare refused to load again - i went back to the ground work with the dually on and then presented her at the foot of the ramp again - this time she loaded fine. I do find that whenever we load we do have to do a small amount of ground work first.
Would agree with Favour - go back and get the ground work established before trying again. For a while it my prove necessary to allow time for a little ground work each time before you try and load. Remember to practice when you do not have the time constraints of getting to a competition - this always makes things worse.
Hi, haven't had him out, just thinking about it at mo!!!!! I've only ever heard good reports about him. Horse will be out twice a week at least so wouldnt be any worry about not getting the practice!
A little off topic but didn't he go bankcrupt a few years ago and have to shut down his bussiness? Or somehting funny went on anyway. Doesnt detract from him being good with horses tho
One of the most interesting 'clinics' i ever went too. Those that know me know i am not a fan of all the ' sandle wearing, crysyal waving, lentil eating sh*i' but he is seriously good.
I watched him spend nearly two hours with a horse that would not load and he finally got it in and then took it out and then in again.
I knew the horses and the problems it had had and the reaons. I also know that from that moment on they never had a problem again. Ok some times he would 'think' about it for a moment but so long as they stuck to the method they were taught they really had no problem.
I thought he explained it well and when i saw him at Hickstead and spoke to him i thought what a lovely chap he was.
as for going bankrupt... well when you have horses and an equestrian related buisness....' there but for the grace of god go i...' is all i can say to that!!!Just because you are a talent with horses does not mean you are good at buisness often not!! you are more bothered about the horses than the money!!!Think thats what gets my goat with some of the 'others' [ wont say the P word or the M R ] they are all about buisness and marketing not really about the horse, they have become the means to make money not the good of the horse any more... whoops may end up controversial .. sorry!!
So i would let the supposed 'fiancial' issue worry you if you were thinking of using him.
Yes I have. He came to our yard about 6 years ago to start loading two youngsters and also my friend's Arab/Welsh who was a devil when it came to loading. We had spent 4 hours on both the two previous days standing in the pouring rain being very patient and got no results.
He spent two or three minutes doing some ground work with her with a pressure halter and she went straight up the ramp into a lorry. He unloaded and loaded her about 50 times and she is always fine now, even though we use a trailer.
up to you if you want to use a pressure halter as that is the way he gets them into the box. I paid for Michael Peace to come to me last week, as I needed a non-confrontational way of getting my boy into my lorry as you can force him to go on but he was scared of the ramp as we think he has had a fall off it. Michael is very patient, never once got angry, in fact he was praising him all the time, the horse is now happy to put his feet on the ramp and in fact can load himself. I can certainly recommend Mike and in fact he was £80 cheaper to come to me than Maxwell.
I *think* that RM has a garuntee that if the horse no longer loads after he goes, and you have followed all his instructions, he will come back for free. A friend had him and horse now runs into the trailer, I have heard only good things about him.
yes we did indeed go bankrupt, very awful time indeed, however it was not in anyway horse related, it was lease related.
At no time have we (Max) stopped working, we have opted to stay small and our business is now pretty much word of mouth which is why you don't see much in magazines etc and don't really advertise unless its for demos or have started something new. but we haven't fallen of the face of the earth like some people think
we work with individuals and their horses not unnlike Michael Pease, we don't do certified programs or stuff like that.
Lochpearl, I understand that it is really frustrating when someone only lives down the road. when we came to pricing we decided to do a set price regardless of where you are in the country.
this was mainly because the majority of our clients live miles away and to add travel would have made it really expensive. so whether you live 15 mins away or 5hrs away we charge the same.
however we have been chatting after your last posts about maybe reducing costs for those that live with an hour.
glad all went well with MP, again another good trainer.
