After a frustrating weekend where I had to pay a local horsemanship trainer to help me load my horse to and from a fun ride, I'm determined to get on top of his loading problems. I've purchased the Richard Maxwell training halter and lead rope and plan to do lots of groundwork with him before going near the trailer again. I've seen you can purchase the suite of RM's loading videos for £150 and wondered if anyone else has bought them and would recommend them/had success from it?

Crazy spending that much on some videos, that makes me think you are being ripped off.

Have a look at Steve Young's videos on YouTube and Facebook. He doesn't hide his process, basically any loading issue is timing and body language. You can buy all the gear, but if you trick a horse into doing something he's unwilling to do he'll only do it that once.

Thank you I'll look him up

You just need to look at pressure and release and understand the principle. And never turn the horse away from the back of the trailer, you should always rein them back if they refuse to load and ask again. Eventually they get tired of walking backwards. Or that is the principle anyway.
The behaviourist I had was very good and told me if Bailey stood at a right angle to the ramp (which was a way of evading the issue) I could still insist she loaded from that angle as she was more than capable of doing so.... and she was indeed capable of swinging her bum and legs around onto the ramp.

In the end it was more a game for her, like one of those annoying people who know how to press your buttons to irritate you, rather than a point blank no!

It does seem a lot, but it's cheaper than the £400 consultation fee to get him out to you 😆
Add an extra £100 if you're in Scotland.

And you can't book just the one session 🤣

Look for someone else local, ask around at your yard or other yards. Or on here if you can give us a county or end of the country.

Haven't used the videos but following with interest as I'm at my wits end with my horse. I've contacted Richard Maxwell and 2 other trainers but haven't had a response. So desperate for help though, really want to get out this summer.

I paid the £400 it’s was some of the best money I have spent . My horse who was a classic delinquent in every way on the ground before Richard came out , is now so much calmer in every way. She is a lot cleaner in her stable , walks to the field , loads in the trailer with no fuss , now will quietly stand on it ( she erupted before ) stands when you mount her and stands when out on a ride all off which she would not do.

Richard was excellent he spends a lot of time with you explains everything, gets you to do it to , and gives a lot of fabulous advice . He also follows up to make sure everything is fine , and further helps if not .

Another who absolutely would pay to have Richard Maxwell out (i’ve had him out twice, 2 different horses, 2 different loading issues)

I spent years with the first horse wasting hours trying and failing to load, other horsemanship people failed, in desperation I contacted Richard, he had the horse loaded and ramp up in one session, other people fannied on with tarps and tunnels!

I always swore if i had another issue I would bite the bullet and get him out again, next horse exploded off the box as soon as the ramp was down. 1 session, problem solved

Persevere, he’s worth it

Richard was in hospital last week with some serious injuries. Not sure where you are but I got ex forum member Tarrsteps out to solve a very tricky horse and never had an issue since. She covers Surrey/Berkshire area.

Hope he's ok.
I haven't used him but know someone who was at their wits end loading. One session with Richard and even know several years later horse still loads

I had him out over 20yrs ago for my tricky loader (he wasn’t £400 then but it was a lot at the time!) and he sorted her issues out in one session 😂 never had a problem after!
