Has anyone had out Spraggs saddlery to fit a saddle to their horse before!!!
I know he is not a master saddler but have heard a few mixed reports from people. But before I book him has anyone on the forum had him out good or bad and have you brought a saddle from him? as his website states he now makes a few saddles :)
Thanks

I've had him out a couple of times, bought a saddle from him (not one of his) and been very happy with it. Not had any problems.

It's a shame as he brings out a very large selection of beautiful well priced saddles but I think unless you know what your are looking at yourself in terms of a good fit then it's probably not a good idea. He sold me a saddle that while a stunning quality brand new saddle for an excellent price it didn't really fit my horse and 18 months later I have had to sell it on again for a wacking great loss.

Hi
I have had him out a couple of times, and have always found him helpful and observant. When it was tipping down with rain on one visit he left me with a saddle to try (it fitted horse but I hadn't sat on it) and a week later came back as I didn't like it and we tried another. He is good value for money and I have never had a problem with anything he has fitted. One horse was very tricky to get a jump saddle to fit and he told me what to look for second hand (it was a make he didn't stock), what size etc. I found one a couple of weeks later on EBay and I immediately knew it fitted,he came out and made a few changes and hay presto I had a lovely comfortable saddle that the horse went better than ever in, for a fraction of the new price. I'm sure like us all he can make mistakes, but my horses seem happy.

I bought my saddle off him when he came to my yard to see a couple of other horses. I knew my old synthetic was a poor fit and she seemed much happier in the new one, so I accepted what he said about my old one and am satisfied with what I got.

However, he has seen quite a few different horses at my yard, and upset almost all the owners by telling them their £2k custom fitted (as an example) saddle was an awful fit and hurting their horse and should never be put near the horse again. A different saddler has subsequently been summoned out for a third opinion and said it's fine.

RS conveniently has just the right saddle for sale to replace these 'ill fitting' ones.

No complaints about the product, as my saddle is fine, but the 'customer service' is a little dubious. (as an aside, his wife, who accompanies him on call outs, is far more moderate and charming). I wouldn't use him again.

Exactly what happen to me, he came out and told me my lovely saddle did not fit my horse, and he poked and proded my horse and touch a few pressure points on her making the horse move, then he went on to say the saddle has made her sore and his wife was by his side also said that the saddle was a very bad fit. At this point I knew what he was going to say and do... So Then he went to his car and got one of his saddles and said I could buy one now !!!! I did'nt... I then got another saddle fitter out who told me my saddle was fine for her and a good fit.

I had exactly the same experience as other people on here. The week before camp I got him out to check my saddle as the pony had muscled up a bit. He told me it was an awful fit and not to let it near my horse with a barge pole. 3 months down the line rogers back was in spasm. I got him back up and told me the saddle was wonkey and that it must have been my fault and I must have dropped the saddle and broken the tree. I didnt believe him and got another saddler to check it, turned out it just had much more flocking on one side than the other and so looked wonkey. I spoke to a few people in the pony club and about 5 people told me exactly the same thing, bad flocking, tree broken, etc. To top it all off, the saddle I had before (that he wouldnt take on part exchange) fitted better anyway!! cutting a story short, I would not recommend him!!

Please do not use this saddler , he came out to me last year to fit my 4 year old
With a new saddle , I had problems with the saddle within the first week he said I had the wrong girth so changed the girth , then he re flocked it then it was because
Her withers had not developed ! !

The truth is the flocking was uneven and the tree was bent ! I had another saddler look at it for me and if I had continued to use it my horse would now have a bad back .

He will come out with his wife who I have to say is very polite , he is a very opinionated and patronising man who does not have a clue .

No refund offered

Oh dear God NO!Edited to add that this is a personal opinion and that I would suggest that the OP try a few other saddlers and ask opinions.
