okay so I want to enter my coloured mare into our first ridden coloured class this year. She is 7 years old a Irish sports horse, is quite lightweight, she has a small feather in the winter but none in the summer, she is a squebald horse, has equall patches of Brown on both sides, a brown face, ears and neck untill about the shoulder area and has a white blaze as well as a black and white mane and tail. I wanted to know what she should ware?, What bit I should have her in, plated mane and tail?, numnah or halfpad or none?, What I should ware? And any other bits of information you think I should know, thank :)

She should be plaited and can be clipped (pref hunter) can wear a double bridle or snaffle with a flat nose band and should have a shaped numnah the same colour as her or none at all. (the numnah should not be seen but can be coloured sheepskin)

Ditto Megan for the horse.

You should preferably wear a tweed jacket, beige, cream or canary jods, long boots or jodphur boots and chaps are OK at local level. Velvet show hat - blue is preferable with natural coloured harness. Shirt and tie or stock. Don't forget a hairnet if your hair is long, gloves and a show cane or whip.

Hope that helps!!

following on from owentm1 if you are an adult I would wear long boots and beige jods, if younger than 16 jodhpur boots with joddy clips and canary jods. as your horse is skebald, i would wear a brown numnah to match, a brown hat silk to match and if possible, brown tweed to match! good luck!!!

She should have all her feather and any other hair trimmed, plaited mane and pulled tail (plaited tails are very old fashioned)

If you want to clip I would give her a full clip, if its not too late, anything else will still show lines for the early shows. It would probably be easier to get her coat out with rugs.

As above straight cut Havanna saddle (show or working hunter) remember you will have a ride judge. Brown leather girth. Plain hunter double bridle or Rugby pelham to match the saddle. Depends on her type as to whether you would use a plain or fancy browband. If you must use a numnah make it the same colour as your saddle and cut close.

Navy velvet hat with flesh coloured harness, hair should always be in a bun, if its not long enough you can buy false ones.

Cream shirt and tie, green tweed hacking jacket, beige jods, long black boots (check the rules but often spurs or dummy spurs) Showing cane (not whip) and brown leather gloves. If she is shown as a horse it doesn't matter how old you are, still long boots.

Think thats it :D :D

Thanks this is a big help guys. About the clip thing well she got clipped in late November she just had her neck and belly done and its still not totally grown in yet so i don't plan on clipping her again but do you think it will hurt her chances in the show ring? I dont plan on doing ridden coloured classes until mid season i will be doing jumping and in hand classes with her first of all.

This is a link to some pictures of her if this helps :) http://s737.photobucket.com/albums/xx11/HevenzAngel/Willow/
