Ok, this will probably get a bit long and rambly, so I apologise in advance!
I keep my horse at my parents, and get free livery in return for looking after my sisters horse (Tom) while she's away at uni. She isn't keen on other people riding him, and I really don't get on with him. OH rides him when he can, but that's once a week max. He's a big girls blouse, and suffers from separation anxiety (which is slowly improving, as we have taken to bribery to get him to stay in the barn where he feels safer). Problem is that if i've been hunting on saturday, and OH can't ride him sunday I feel bad leaving him on his own again. If I have time I'll ride mine then ride him out, but more often than not I ride Ron and lead Tom.
Ron's ace, and must be a saint... but Tom doesn't seem to walk out, he either jogs or lags behind. He tries to nip Ron every few yards, and he tries to get so close to Ron that he stands on him. Ron then skips to get his feet out of the way and we end up cantering before we know what's happening.
I know Tom can be a bit stiff after a night in the stable, so I don't mind him having a bit of a slow moment and a stretch off but it would be lovely if he just walked along sensibly once he's warmed up. He's more than capable with a rider on, and its not like he needs nagging to keep up either!
Do you think he's taking the Pee, and/or what can I do to improve how he goes when he's led?
