No, I don't have a Western saddle, but my TreeFree saddle is significantly larger than a bog standard English saddle. Last year, I discovered that the saddle hole on a Gallop ride-on fly rug doesn't fit around it. Fin and I just sucked it, and luckily clegg season was short.

I'm looking at the internet, but it's not easy to tell exactly how any given rug attaches to horse and saddle. If there's something that people use with Western saddles, it would definitely work.

Oh, Kramer appears to be useful! I'd stopped buying (cheapish) stuff from them because they had a minimum amount -- like £60 or something along those lines -- that you needed to spend in order for them to ship to the UK. Fine if you were spending that anyway, but annoying if you didn't need £60 worth of stuff.

It seems as if that is no longer the case.

it is and it came from your side of the pond :D

Aye, I see that. Did you find a supplier here or did you pick it up over there?

I'm very uncertain of my plans for Hermosa. She's doing the hackamore training at the moment, and I don't know whether I will pursue that and go all-in with a Western saddle, or if I will go more towards endurance or working equitation, or if I will get one of those cool Iberian saddles because they are awesome, or if I will change to English tack and go back to my roots as a DQ. No new saddles in the cards until I know what I want to do, but window shopping is fun.

neither I had them shipped. Got the first in 1997, horse loved it then I got the next 2. No supplier here and sadly none for Skito pads so they have to be shipped as well.

So much good stuff in the US. I love the look of those Skito pads. Hadn't come across them. I just bought Hermosa a Christ Lamfelle endurance/treeless pad because I needed the ability to add shims and she wanted something fluffier than the Treefree pad. It does the job, but it isn't a fun colour.

Have you not thought of a quater sheet or full fly rug for under the saddle???

I used to ride an Arabian western and his owner had an Amigo ride on sheet. I've also seen the ones from Kraemer work well too. I had one from there (but for my dressage saddle) and it was great. No complaints.

I had an Iberosattel (made by Sommer) and didn't like it. I had 2 actually. It felt like too much under me at times, but I also had a sh*tty fitter (2 of them!). I tried a Deuber but felt a bit like the balance point was too far back or something. If I had a good fitter or a selection to try and use my own judgment, I'd consider an Iberian style saddle again, but I was turned off by them for awhile, and my Amerigo was excellent.

I loved working equitation and so did my last PRE. His current owner still does it with him, and always receives compliments on him at clinics. Maybe Hermosa will take well to that too! I think it's fun and sort of gives dressage more of a purpose (I think my horse thought this too). It's easy enough to compete in both, IMO, and some WE exercises helped our dressage (flying changes, for example).

Of course you just have to see which direction the horse takes you in ;)

I have the Gallop one. I tried it under the saddle last year, but because of how the hole sits, it puts pressure on the withers in kind of a weird way. Wasn't happy with it.

She has a hi-viz mesh quarter sheet, but it only protects the back half of the horse. The cleggs here are like enemy fighter jets.

Anyway, I've picked up a yellow Amigo ride-on rug. Hopefully it works!

OP I had a TreeFree saddle!! Aren't they wonderful little saddles!! Sadly the Tor one I had didn't really seem to fit my coblet well and I sold it. Miss it as it was supremely comfortable.

I think it was the Horseware ride-on that I used for mine. It came in two parts and fitted my TreeFree nicely, and was easy to whip on and off. What size is your horse?? Mine was a full-size one. I cannot recall ever selling it............... if you think it might fit I'd be happy to have a dig-around in the tack room for it.

Yes, they are great. I have two! Using my Tor on Hermosa, and my little 15" eBay special Exmoor on Fin. My existing Gallop fly rug might fit that one if Fin can be convinced to wear a rug.

Wish I'd seen your post sooner -- I've got a Horsewear rug online that should be here soon, but it's great to hear that it will work.
