Ride-on fly rugs Yay or Nay ?????

this is probably not in quite the right place on the forum but oh well it is horse care !!
im thinking of spending my hard earned cash on a ride-on fly rug so what have you used ? or seen ? whats good ? whats not?
so far ive looked at hkm, amigo and gee-tac has anyone used the gee-tac one it appears to have a seam that follows the dorsal not quite sure about that with a saddle on top.
anyway let me know of any experiances good or bad before i waste my cash.

My traddie has got sweet itch; plus last summer my loan mare suffered dreadfully from horse-flies attacking her whenever we ventured outside.......... so got ride-ons for them both.

Horseware were doing a nice two-piece last summer (mine's navy blue); they look complicated to put on but aren't at all fiddly and you soon get the hang of them. They do the job and don't get in the way when you're riding. Because its a two-piece, you get excellent coverage from the poll/mane/neck area, through to the back/flanks & tail. Easy to wash and maintain. The only thing I would wish about it is for them to do it in hi-viz rather than navy! The only thing I don't like about this one is the fact that it does tend to snag on the horse's coat sometimes, especially after clipping, which must be pretty uncomfortable for the horse. Its solvable however if you get some silky material and line the back portion - but wish they'd thought of this and done it in the manufacturing process.

Went riding with a friend who'd got a really nice quarter/bum-sheet from Premier Equine. Its really nice light material and won't over-heat the horse. Snag: it only covers the quarter-sheet area and you'll still have the whole area in front of the saddle uncovered. Tho' perhaps, just perhaps, they'll manufacture one for that area too. Worth looking on the Premier Equine website, or ask for their brochure. I've got one each for my two horses and they're fantastic! Mega easy to use and wash etc. Plus they don't "stick" and the horses seem really relaxed in them and don't get hot. They're a really nice little piece of kit and I don't know how I'd manage without them hacking out in the summer.
