We`re looking to buy a ride on mower which will cope with rough grass, docks , etc. but that will go low enough to trim lawn as well. Any suggestions/ experience please.

we're on our second one in 10 years, the 1st was a Lawnflight (dont think they spell it like that though) and served us well, it had a removable grass box etc. As we also use it to level out indoor school, we had to take the front balancing block off etc.
when we had it serviced the company that did it for us talked us into trading it in, becasuse they had a client after one like ours....
we did a deal and for some silly reason we also paid a cash difference.... we ended up with a Murrey - no grass box, and TBH, just doesnt seem as good.
Both have been used when we have bought them as they are mainly used in the arena and sand does eventually wreck them.
we have also used both though for cutting down long grass, topping the smaller paddocks etc.
neither were above £500.
we have a little trailer, and also a garden cart that has been pulled by both of them and they're really handy.
we had the 1st ones tyres filled so they wouldnt go down etc and that worked a treat also.
both of the ones we had had seemed to have 6 settings for the height, the lowest tends to be really low and good for a nice neat lawn finish.
when cutting down docks etc we tend to use a higher setting, then go over it again with a lower one - this is much easier if you have one with a collection box but managable without.

I've had three, currently have a John Deere and a Craftsman, both do the job very well in the paddocks when I can't be bothered to get the tractor and bush hog out for the smaller paddocks. Ours have to cope with willow saplings and golden rod too, both of them pull the roller and a small harrow as well.
