Ride today. Need your opinion please as i feel disheartened

Ok, heres my story, i had lessons as a child/teenager for many years and helped a friend hack out her ponies and acted as a groom at shows.
I did'nt ride for many years due to my circumstances. (Nothing major, just lack of time/places to go)
I started riding again after 6 years at a place where i used to live in Surrey,they were ex racehorses and i had a great time riding them and really got my confidence back up to scratch.
I moved back up north and did'nt ride for a few months due to moving/getting married/changing jobs. Today i went riding and wasn't too impressed with the set up. They put me on a pony(think im a bit big but ok!) who apparently is anyones ride. With me she at first plodded along(normal behaivour)
then jogged,spooked, threw her head back and bucked the rest of the way. I can cope with bucking and spooking but in the end i felt defeated. The girl who ran the place could'nt understand what her problem was and that just made me feel like a failure. Apparently she did'nt normally act like that and i tried my best but i just ended up feeling disheartened.
Sorry for the long moan. I just needed to get it off my chest. Any comments appreciated xxx

sounds a bit like me

used to ride/had own pony when i was younger..period of no lessons/little riding
and now im back again i feel like i cant do anything right.

ill get on a horse and think its going ok, then helen will get on it and it will be going so much better

I wouldnt take it to heart that he messed about, my old lad never does anything wrong when a novice gets on him but if someone experienced gets on him he acts the prat and throws himself about!!!

I'd take it as a compliment that he must have sensed you knew what you were doing and good on you for not coming off!!!

Hope you find somewhere better to ride soon!! ;-)
 
I'd try to find somewhere alse to ride, sounds dodgy to me. Yeah right she's never done it before! Pull the other one!

Just ignore them, it's obviously the pony and nothing to do with you. Dont let it get you down. these cowboy outfits need shutting down!

Thats guys i just feel upset that i had alot of confidence on a 17.2 ex racehorse then get on a 13.3 pony and feel beaten!!
I think sassy69 kind of hit the nail on the head as does my husband.
I appreciate your comments xxx
 
Don't feel disheartened I have a horse just like that. She tests you and often wins, lots of folks are use to forward going horses and so when they encounter a lzy one they feel all at odds. Somebody said to me that if I can ride her I can ride anything I don't think that is necessarily true but there is a moral in there. You know what I'd go back insist on riding the same horse until you've mastered her, but be warned you may end up buying her...I did

Dont want to sound harsh here so please give me if it comes out bad - but maybe you were too big for the pony and it was feeling uncomfortable - hence the bucking...although ponies are generally pretty tough and can carry well.
It sounds like a bit of a shambles and they should of suited you up to something that was more suitable...have another go somewhere else...I am sure you will do great...you need confidence boosts from riding schools not make you more nervous and low....it should be enjoyable especially as you are paying for knowledge, experience and to learn...
 
my pony is old now but sassy is right - my little pony was brill with novice nervous riders but when I got on her she would play me up, rear and bolt off all the time with me...I found it quite fun but she looked a nutter to others...
It prob proves that you are a great rider and knowing ponies they are always testing you...
 
Don't feel down about it. I expect the pony you rode is used to trundling along doing its own thing, as soon it realised it had someone who could actually ride on board, it probably didn't like it. Hope you get on better at the new place. But if you want to ride a proper horse
